Ice Cube is one of the few hip-hop artists who can get away with releasing an album (”Raw Footage”) with songs called “Hood Mentality” and “I Got My Locs On” one day, and in the same week tell the press he wants to be a positive role model to children. There is no denying that Cube deserves his credit both as a West Coast rap pioneer and as a bonafide movie star. It is his credibility as a hardcore rapper and as a family-friendly film actor at the same time that astonishes both the music and film industry.

In his latest film The Longshots, Cube plays plays an uncle who inspires his niece to try out for the local Pop Warner football team. Cube admits to OK! Magazine that he took on the part so he can set a good example to youngsters. Cube stated “Being in the industry for over twenty years I’ve realized that my true fan base have kids – just like me. And I needed to make a connection to the next generation and hopefully keep some continuity in these households and sustain my career. At some point, every artist has to reach to the next generation and let them know what you’re all about. This was the easiest way to do that.

The Longshots comes out to theaters next week on August 22nd. Make sure to check out WoooHa, Inc. exclusive images from the movie as well.
