In a recent interview with Hustler Magazine, Ice Cube reveals quite candidly the movie he wishes he never worked on and the movie he wishes he never passed up. Cube reveals that he regrets working on John Carpenter’s Ghost of Mars which was slammed by critics all-together for its cheap special effects and campy costume design. Cube admitted“I don‚Äôt like that movie. I‚Äôm a big fan of (director) John Carpenter (and) the only reason I did it was because John Carpenter directed it ‚Ķ But they really didn‚Äôt have the money to pull the special effects off‚Äù.
And what about the movie he regrets passing up? The Hughes Brothers’ Menace II Society. To Cube’s dismay, due to the classic 1991 hit Boyz N The Hood he became labeled in Hollywood as the go-to-guy for street gang movies. This was a label he didn’t like. So when the Hughes Brothers came knocking on Cube’s door to play the crazed gang member O-Dawg the following year in Menace II Society, Cube declined. But that was then, and now looking back at it, Mr. O’Shea Jackson regrets passing up the role.“I had just done Boyz N The Hood and Trespass (and) I didn‚Äôt want to get stuck playing just characters from the ‚Äòhood ‚Ķ That‚Äôs the only one (movie) I said, ‚ÄòDamn, that‚Äôs a good movie I wish I had been in.‚Äô‚Äù
Ironically, Cube played a character “stuck in the hood” in the 1995 comedy Friday which ended up being his break-through film into mainstream appeal. He is currently filming the hip-hop comedy Janky Promoters with Mike Epps and Young Jeezy and is rumored to be playing B.A. Baracus in the upcoming A-Team movie.

Isnt janky promoters about a guy stuck in the hood as well? I dont understand artists who try and move away with what got them there

It can go both ways, depending on the ability of the actor.. ALot of artist turn down roles that got them their first gig because they don’t want tobe typed cast as a one demensional actor. I fyou play in too many movies as the same type of character in every movie, youwill be limited to how many directors or producers that will really consider you for other types of roles. Consequestly, Limiting yourself to potential roles and movies that will get you more notoriety and more success… Lorenz Tate didn’t make movies for a few years for this same reason.. He didn’t want to be type casted by directors, and that is from his mouth..
