RZA to produce “The Last Dragon” remake with Sam Jackson as Sho’Nuff
Sony Columbia Pictures has officially announced that The RZA will be exec producing a remake to the cult-classic film The Last Dragon. The RZA continues to build up his film resume and has managed to land Samuel L. Jackson in the role as the evil Sho’nuff who was originally played by Julius Carry (RIP).
“I’m a huge fan of the original and look forward to bringing Sho’Nuff into the 21st century,” Jackson told The Hollywood Reporter. No word yet on who will play main character Leroy Green.
The remake of the movie will stay true to the original storyline while The RZA plans to add some contemporary hip-hop style to it. Set in New York City, the story follows a black teenage martial arts student and aspiring martial artist named Leroy Green, who goes on a quest to achieve The Final Level and a mystical energy called The Glow. On his way to becoming The Last Dragon, he must confront villains like a crooked arcade mogul named Eddie Arkadian and the evil Sho’nuff (Jackson).

Man…. , please don’t f*ck this up. That is one of my favorite movies from back in the day!!! I’m interested to see what kind of new spin he can put on this film, but I’m glad the RZA is going to keep closely to the original plot.

LOVE this movie. A hip hop update is a fantastic idea, or it would be if hip hop was still good. But I have to say I trust RZA’s judgment.
However, Sam Jack is WAAAY too old to play Sho Nuff. This is a young people’s story. The target audience is teens and young adults. They really need to give some new stars a chance. What about Anthony Mackie?

If they are going to use Samuel for Sho Nuf then they should use Taimak for Leroy! He still looks fantastic an can whup some searious asterik! Actually he looks even better now! If thats not palatable for them, at least put him in the role of Daddy Green! The Last Dragon wont be the same without Taimak!

What amazes me is how the advertisements speak of casting for sho-nuff as if he were the lead. The Last Dragon was about Taimak and thats who we want to see in this flik. They can cast anyone else they want but if Taimak doesn’t play a part in some way, I won’t go see it.

This is my #1 FAVORITE movie next to THE WIZ! I think it would be wonderful for Taimak to be in this movie-of course not as Leroy Green, but definitely something b/c he truly didn’t get his respect due when the film was out back in the day. I can’t wait so don’t fudge this up!!!!

RZA…please man, you can't screw this up. This movie was iconic back in the day for so many people. Taimak would have to be in it…probably as Daddy Green like “browniii” said. But Sam Jackson…c'mon man….nobody really knew who Julius Carry was back then. Why not follow that trend…find some NEW talent. Sam Jack isn't going to “sell” the movie. And if that's what your looking for then I'm afraid this project would suffer. It would seriously lack some the “creativity” the first had…
things to think about man…and please steer clear of some of the stupid gimmicky things Hollywood tries to pull with remakes….
