Close friend of Notorious B.I.G., Damion Butler AKA D-Roc, is releasing a straight-to-DVD documentary about the life and times of Biggie in January 2009. Although the documentary, Biggie Small: Rap Phenomenon, has no connection to the 20th Century Fox biopic Notorious, D-Roc will be releasing at the same time as the movie to capitolize on the added publicity.

Stephen Bolles, an exec for the production company releasing the DVD told HipHop DX “[That film] is the Hollywood take on Biggie’s life, whereas [Biggie Small: Rap Phenomenon] is the raw footage; it‚Äôs like the two sides of a coin.‚Äù The straight-to-DVD comes out in stores on January 27, 2009.
