Those who have been fortunate enough to see Notorious in test or press screenings have all raved about the acting and there is early praise that Derek Luke plays a spot-on version of Diddy He better have, considering Luke decided to bypass an acting coach to learn Diddy’s mannerisms and instead went straight to Mr. Combs himself. On the set of “CSI” where he is filming a guest role, Diddy stated:

“Everybody always asked me who I wanted to play me if anyone ever played me, and I said Derek Luke. So that’s why I called [Derek] to play me in ‘Notorious.’”

So after Notorious comes out in theaters in mid-January, what is the next step for Derek Luke and Diddy? It’s no doubt that Diddy has a story to tell. From intern to running a multi-million dollar record label in just a few short years. A rags to riches story that Derek Luke is ready to take to the next level.

“I would love to play Puff from scratch. I would love to play him from start to finish. This man changed the game,” Luke said. “Jay-Z, Master P, Eminem, 50 Cent? [Diddy] was sitting on millions way before them. Kanye, with the shine and the clothes? Puffy was all of that.”
