This is proof that even a bad movie can get a sequel. While I am generally a supporter of Will Smith’s movies, Hancock had to be one of the biggest disappointments…and I’m not the only one who thought so. But the bottom line is the movie made money. A lot of it. To the tune of over half a BILLION dollars world-wide. $624 million to be exact. And it was still the #4 biggest box office movie of 2008. Put it all together and it’s no wonder Will wants a sequel. He recently told website Joe Blo:
He (Will Smith) told us that we’ll “definitely” be seeing a sequel. When we asked Will if he’d ever be up for playing another superhero he replied that there were a lot of unexplored characters in the HANCOCK universe that would be ripe for a sequel and confirmed that we’ll definitely see the rumored HANCOCK 2 in a few years.
Would any of you be interested in seeing this though? I can dig an I Am Legend sequel/prequel but this is pushing it.

Nooooooooooooo
2nd E-Rods comment there. I was REALLY disappointed in this movie.
This movie had a lot of potential. A look at a TRUE real-life super hero. But then the second half happened and it all went to shit. Excuse my language but its true. I will NOT be watching the sequel.
They did try and cram allot into the second half of the movie that I can agree with, the sudden surge of energy in the later part of the film can be seen as a parallel with what Hancock himself would be going through emotionally but dealing with that effectively and obviously could have a) taken too much time and b) would have made the finished product seem broken and disjointed. I would love to see the story evolve and deepen further though but there will always be another Spiderman 3 out there waiting to be made (and spoiled) by greedy old Hollywood.
I think people take things way to seriously. In this comic book filled world it is increasingly hard to come up with original plots and ideas. People gasped in the theatre when the third act surprise occurred when I saw it. Now I’m not saying this is Dark Knight, Iron Man, or eve HB 2: Golden Army but it was entertaining, funny and different. And yeah it made a butt load of money. To be honest I enjoyed it more than I am Legend although that wasn’t all bad.
