Snoop signs record label deal with MTV

You heard right. MTV is taking advantage of their built in audience with the teen demo and will be launching a record label division with Snoop Dogg as their first artist. Snoop recently left his long-term deal with Interscope to be the pioneering artist for the MTV label. As part of the deal MTV will hold the exclusive rights to distribute, market and promote his next album, “Malice in Wonderland,” out later this year.

MTV is still finalizing distribution details to get the album into stores. From a marketing perspective, I’m surprised that MTV never launched something like this before. The main issue though is that for the past 3-4 years their focus has been on female teens, hence programming like “The Hills,” “Laguna Beach,” “MADE,” “The City” the list goes on and on. As a result young male teens have been tuning out the network as shows like “Jackass” were never replaced.

Well according to MTV, things are going to change. Their new programming schedule calls for more male friendly shows including a spin-off of “Jackass” to lure the guys back. This is all part of a bigger initiative to then have artists like Snoop come in and market the hell out of his album. Does this mean Snoop will unseat Diddy as the hip-hop king of MTV? Well Snoop will also be hosting a new variety show, “Dogg After Dark,” Feb. 17 on MTV. We will have more details on the Snoop and MTV collab as they come in.

Cam’ron producing Black “Curb Your Enthusiasm” sitcom

Cam’ron is currently working on developing a sitcom, but not just any sitcom. Inspired by his love for the former HBO hit “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Cam’ron is developing an African-American comedy based on the show. Cam’ron officially stated “I got a sitcom coming out but we don‚Äôt have a title exactly to it yet. It‚Äôs like black ‚ÄòCurb Your Enthusiasm.‚Äô‚Äù

And to add to the realism, Cam will even be hiring Jewish actors as the themes of the show will also involve around the Jewish community.

“Right now while I’m writing my show, it’s a lot of stuff that has to do with Jewish people,” he said. “So I called my lawyer, my man Andrew Bergman, and I’m like listen, would I be allowed to do this because I don’t wanna offend anybody.”

Somehow I get the feeling someone is going to be offended from this show. No word on production details but we will keep you posted. Via: NahRight

Another new pic of Common from “Terminator: Salvation”

Not really much to add from what I didn’t say when I posted the first pic of Common from Terminator: Salvation. Movie is going to be bad ass though….I hope the unrated DVD comes with a Christian Bale “Super Expletive” Edition though.

Wrigley’s suspends Chris Brown Doublemint Gum ads

We try and stay out of the hip-hop drama and gossip and leave that to the experts but once it involves business, then WoooHa steps in. So as the world knows, Chris Brown is going down for giving Rihanna an alleged beating before the Grammy’s. True, Chris could face 10 years in jail, and has to deal with instantly losing millions of female fans…but now here comes the endorsement fall out as well.

The Wrigley company, owners of Doublemint Gum, sent us over their official stance on the latest Chris Brown events and have announced they are pulling all of his Doublemint Gum ads (shown below) from national TV.  The statement reads:

“We have made the decision to suspend the current advertising featuring Brown and any related marketing communications until the matter is resolved.”

Maybe CB can take some advice from Michael Phelps on how to deal with the endorsement fall out. Although Wrigley is not officially stating they are dropping Chris Brown entirely, this is just the beginning. Once one major sponsor reacts, the rest are quick to follow suit and the loss of millions.

Chris Brown also endorses a dance video game called U-Dance, has a partnership with New Era hats and a steady movie career which are all now in jeopardy. This is not going to be pretty. No major company is going to want to work with an alleged Rihanna beater. More to come.

Lil Kim joins new season of “Dancing With the Stars”

First Master P laughed and joked his way though a couple of rounds but now we will see what tricks Lil Kim has up her sleeve. ABC has officially announced that Lil Kim will be a contestant on the new season of “Dancing With The Stars” which kicks off on March 9th.

While the 33 year old is no stranger to a stage, hopefully all her on-stage bumpin and grindin experience can translate to some smooth ballroom dance moves. Her notable competition includes Lawrence Taylor, David Alan Grier, singer Jewel and that crazy Steve-O from “Jackass” among others.

Video: Mariah Carey movie clip from “Push”

No this isn’t the action/super-powers Push that just came out in theaters this past weekend. The Push that Mariah is in is a lot more serious and has the critics paying attention to her performance…in a good way. Movie premiered at Sundance and took home three awards including the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award.

Most important for Mariah, critics have been raving of her performance. At first I didn’t believe it either but this clip is actually pretty convincing that she has finally shed her Glitter ways. See for your self and let me know what you think. Via: Black Voices

Note: Some foul language up in this clip so turn your speakers down a little at work.

Movie is about a young girl in Harlem named Precious Jones struggling to overcome tremendous obstacles and discover her own voice. Verbally and sexually abused by her family, her troubles lead to problems in school. Precious has no friends, no money, two kids (from her father), and she’s illiterate but comes across a concerned social worker (Carey) and a nurse who show her incredible kindness.
