Russell Simmons has teamed up with Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the country, to market and distribute Simmons’ new clothing line called American Classics. According to the official press release, American Classics will be featured in over 10% of Wal-Mart stores (approx. 350 stores) and is also available for purchase on the official Wal-Mart website as well.

Unlike Simmons’ other clothing lines including Phat Farm and Argyle Culture, American Classics will be priced to sell during these times of financial difficulty. American Classics’ first season has a heavy focus on purple, navy, and white and includes jeans, sweater vests, casual sports shoes, and woven and knit shirts with 80% of the collection priced at $15 or less.

Looks like Russell continues to make moves and stay relevant and most important, he realizes that the days of the bling era and extravagant spending are long gone. Right now it’s about value and saving…let’s see if American Classics fares better than Master P’s Wal-Mart line though.
