Tupac x Morgan Creek. After the release of Notorious and the recent development of the Run DMC biopic, details have surfaced that production company Morgan Creek is stuck in a legal battle with Tupac’s mom over the movie rights to Tupac’s life story. Morgan Creek, which has produced movies such as Get Carter and Two For The Money, is suing Tupac’s mothers company Amaru Entertainment, alleging that Amaru has backed out of an agreement to sell Tupac’s life rights for a film adaptation.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Morgan Creek and Amaru Ent were in talks as early as December to bring Tupac’s life story to the big screen. However, details of the contract and negotiations began to break down in January once Notorious was released. Because the movie underperformed at the box office, a rift between the parties developed shortly after probably due to minimum guarantees and cut of box office gross points.

So what does this all really mean to the Tupac fans? It means for better or for worse, we will not be seeing an officially endorsed Tupac movie anytime soon. Word is that many of the big studios are afraid to touch the project right now in fear of being sued for the many outstanding issues currently on the table and there still is a pile of paperwork to clear Tupac’s songs for licensing use. So there you have it. Props to In My State of Mind for the heads up.
