Fat Joe to release low-price sneakers called “The Recession”

Fat Joe x The Recession. Looks like Fat Joe is following the footsteps of Stephon Marbury and will be releasing a low-priced sneaker appropriately titled “The Recession.” Sneaker Files reports the shoe line will be sold exclusively at Sears and K-Mart later this year. No word on price point but we do know for sure they will be cheaper than Kayne’s $1,000 LV sneakers.

Ice Cube’s “Janky Promoters” is dropped but signs new movie deal

Ice Cube x Janky Promoters. Cube’s next movie Janky Promoters has been dropped by the Weinstein Company which was set to market and distribute the movie. It was originally postponed for a March 27th release but then Variety reports that the Weinstein’s decided to drop the movie altogether.

While Cube is trying to find a studio home for the project, it’s not all bad news. Cube has just been confirmed to star in the New Line Cinema action/comedy flick Ride Along which is about a rogue cop who is overly protective of his sister. When she reveals she’s engaged to a rich white psychiatrist, the cop (Cube) sets to destroy the relationship by inviting his future brother-in-law on a ride-along. New Line has a deep history with Cube as they were the one studio back in 1995 to take the chance on a little movie called Friday.

Public Enemy animated & live-action biopic movie in talks

Our friends over at Rap Radar reported yesterday (via MTV) that Public Enemy is in talks for an animated movie based on the upcoming Public Enemy graphic novel which hits stores in May. The five part graphic novel is written by Chuck D. While MTV states Chuck D and the crew are in talks with an animation studio for a movie, we at WoooHa just heard that they are also in talks to do a live-action biopic as well.

Word on the street is there are multiple scripts out centered around PE. One script is for the animated movie and the other script is for a biopic about the origins of Public Enemy and their rise from Long Island friends to international stars. It’s no surprise that a PE biopic script is in development considering we just had Notorious and scripts for N.W.A. and Run D.M.C. biopics are also in the works. I guess that means a Beastie Boys movie deal is next.

Kanye West hires Spike Jonze for mini-movie

Update: XXL Magazine now confirms that the mini-movie will actually be up to 10-15 minutes long and is not a music video to “See You In My Nightmares”…rather the song will be featured in the movie.

Kanye West x Spike Jonze.
Kanye has just hired film director Spike Jonze, director of the upcoming movie Where The Wild Things Are, to film a mini-movie for his next single “See You In My Nightmares.” Jonze has a good relationship with Kanye having filmed the video to “Flashing Lights” and past videos from Notorious B.I.G. to Weezer.

Jonze and Mr. West are currently developing concepts for the “See You In My Nightmares” mini-movie where they both hope to generate the same buzz that the “Flashing Lights” did. Nowadays, with record label budget cuts galore, only a handful of artists in the industry can afford to make big-budget videos. The days of Bad Boy multi-million dollar video budgets are over but you can be assured Kanye will spare no expense for this one.

Busta Rhymes x Transformers 2. Busta & Barker are teaming up for the premiere track to the upcoming Transformers sequel Revenge of the Fallen. Early plans are for the currently untitled track to be pushed extensively throughout the film marketing campaign and will be included on the soundtrack as well. In fact, Travis Barker just gave a status of the track on his Twitter this morning:

WhiteListening to a new version of a track I’m playing on for Busta Rhymes for the Transformers 2 soundtrack. Shit is jammin’.

Transformers 2 (Revenge of the Fallen) hits theaters June 24, 2009. Let’s hope they don’t kill off another hip-hop Autobot like Jazz this time.

Exclusive: Jermaine Dupri’s TAG Records in financial trouble

Jermaine Dupri x TAG Records. When Jermaine Dupri was booted from his job at Def Jam earlier this year, there were rumors that Dupri’s deal with TAG Records was in jeopardy as well. Fortunately for Dupri, the Def Jam and TAG Body Spray collaboration was arranged as a separate deal and Dupri kept his job as President of TAG Records…for the time being.

The bottom line though is TAG Records is not doing so hot. Rumored reports are coming in from Proctor & Gamble (TAG Body spray owners) that due to a combination of Continue Reading…

Jay-Z’s Rocawear launches social networking site

Jay-Z x Rocawear. Jay-Z and his Rocawear online team have just launched the official Rocawear social networking site called Roc4Life. Similar to other urban social networking sites like ThisIs50, Roc4Life includes a blog, urban news updates and of course the standard social networking features like groups, contests and forums.

Main goal of the site will be to promote Rocawear as a lifestyle and not just a clothing brand and to drive interest (and sales) of the Rocawear branded products. Our friends Dr. Jays also has coverage of the Roc4Life launch party so make sure to check that as well.
