Kanye West x American Idol. The ratings juggernaut might be slipping a bit (down 8% vs. last year) but it still is the highest rated show on TV and still able to land the biggest music talent out there. So it’s not that big of a surprise when Fox announced Kanye West will be performing on the show this Wednesday March 11th where he will be performing “Heartless.”
Rumors were going around that Kanye would be a guest judge/coach but WoooHa can confirm that is not true. An insider source told us “Kanye is only scheduled to perform. Any other involvement is strictly rumor.” The March 11th espisode is a results show where they don’t have guest coaches so that makes sense.
Yeti says: According to Nielsen numbers, “American Idol” is in roughly 30 million households every night. In comparison, the biggest night in music, The Grammys had 19 million viewers this year. You can be sure Kanye is going to take full marketing advantage of being in the homes of 30 million viewers for a 3 min. performance which is estimated at over $2 million dollars in media exposure. It’s a given he will be wearing Pastelle but the real question is will he be wearing the LVs or the Air Yeezys? Or maybe keep both companies happy and wear one of each.
American Idol been facing a decline in ratings, but it seems like it sore back up with a performance from Kanye West. Honestly I think American Idol should continue to allow more artist on to perform, to not only help boast ratings but allow it to be a venue for establish artist to have an outlet to create exposure for their upcoming albums. Since MTV TRL is off the air, American Idol can have the chance to create a platform with a larger audience that MTV couldnt have reached.”
