Akon to launch Konvict fragrance line

Akon x Konvict Cosmetics. Akon will be releasing his first products under his Konvict Cosmetics International company in the form of two fragrances, Kovict and Aliuane. So now you don’t need to be an ex-con, you can just smell like one.

According to Women‚Äôs Wear Daily, the fragrances will be available on the company‚Äôs website starting in August making it one of the few fragrances released by an urban artist that actually will NOT have Macy’s distribution. The Konvict fragrance is aimed at the younger consumer, while Aliaune is for the more sophisticated consumer. Eh…do sophisticated consumers listen to Akon? The guy is a kid thrower! Forget Kobe. It’s all about Dr. Jays.

PIC: Eminem to be cartoon co-host w/ Family Guy’s Stewie

Eminem x Family Guy. Eminem will get animated in his latest album marketing stunt. With all the iPhone apps, comic books, Twitter feeds and now this, it’s pretty clear that “Relapse” is being treated more like a big-time movie vs. a normal album release in regards to the marketing strategies.

In the latest stunt, the cartoon version of Eminem will co-host Fox’s “Animation Domination” programming block with cartoon baby Stewie Griffin from “Family Guy.” Eminem states in a press release from MTV:

“It was a thrill to work with Stewie. I’m a big fan of talking babies and their humor.”

Eminem’s album “Relapse” is set to hit stores on May 19th while his cartoon appearance will happen this Sunday on FOX. Screen Shot via: Broken Cool

DJ Qbert launches online DJ scratching University

This is one online class that University of Phoenix does not offer. DJ Qbert has officially launched Qbert Skratch University, an online education center for the art of scratch DJ’ing and turntablism. ProHipHop has the entire press release but it reads something like this:

“Qbert presents a comprehensive video curriculum online, from the most basic skratching techniques to the advanced “battle tactics” that made him the 3-time DMC Champion. QSU members use ArtistWorks’ proprietary VMS (Video/Media Management System) to send DJ Qbert a video of their practice session that he reviews and then posts a response video on the site. The Student Video and Qbert’s response are uniquely paired on QSU as “Master Classes” for the entire community to learn from.”

“Qbert invites multiple Guest DJs and related professionals to share their insights and techniques with the student body, making QSU the most comprehensive and influential Skratch education program available to DJs today.”

Check out the official University site at QbertSkratchUniversity.com.

50 Cent’s new video game with SHOCKINGLY low sales

50 Cent x Blood on the Sand. There is no doubt that 50 has been flexing his publicity-machine muscle to promote his newest video game “Blood on the Sand.” He did in-store appearances, contests to play against others and tons of publicity. Many in the gaming industry saw it as a clear sign 50 was serious about expanding his empire into the gaming world.

Despite all the efforts, “Blood on the Sand” has sold so little that it already can be found in “dump-bins” across America. According to NPD which monitors game sales, “Blood on the Sand” has only sold 56,000 copies from when it launched in February. In comparison, 50′s first game “Bulletproof” sold over 681,000 copies during the same initial launch window, which is TWELVE times more than “Blood on the Sand.”

The “Blood on the Sand” results are so terrible that publisher THQ did not mention the game at all in their recent earnings reports. Insiders say THQ is blaming the economy and recession but others are pointing to 50 Cent’s waning popularity with gamers and the fact that “Blood on the Sand” was originally dumped by its original developer. Will these results scare off Jay-Z from moving forward with getting into the gaming industry?
