50 Cent’s “Family Day” Causes Feud

50 Cent’s “Family Day” event which will be held in his hometown of Queens, New York has sparked fear from the community and has cops preparing for the worst. The August 30th event is expected to draw about 10,000 people, and an army of cops with plans to shut down a massive 20 block area.

The hip hop star was rumored to make an appearance at the event where he would of possibly perform on stage with other celebrity acts, New York Post sources in the New York’s Law Enforcement warn that “We can’t control the area,” noting that the performance on the grounds of PS 40 in Jamaica will be part of “an outdoor event — people could walk in from anywhere.”

“Someone’s gonna try to make a name for themselves,” another worried source added. “They’re gonna take a shot at him, and they’re either gonna hit him or they’re gonna miss him and hit some poor, innocent kid or grandmother.”

50 Cent’s publicist, Keesha Johnson, said he would make an appearance. Reports today from New York’s Mayor Mike Bloomberg said “Our understanding after talking with 50 Cents is he has no plans to perform whatsoever. He might go, but he’s not going to perform”. That eases police officials worries on a possible Mayhem if there were to be an actual performance.

The Family Day event is sponsored by Bette Midler’s foundatation “The New York Restoration Project” along with the G-Unity Foundation. Prior to the event 50 will bus neighborhood childen to Six Flags amusement park in New York on August 29th.

Death Row Records goes into movie business

Death Row Records goes into movie business

The newly resurrected Death Row has officially announced that they will be launching a film production unit that will heavily utilize the famed Death Row Records catalog. The Hollywood Reporter states that Death Row Films is set to shoot their first movie called Sons 2 The Grave (not to be confused with DMX’s Cradle To The Grave) in Toronto this October. The movie will use songs from the label catalog which of course includes Dr. Dre, Snoop, Tupac, Tha Doggpound, etc.

The film is about a young basketball phenom returning to an embattled inner city ghetto after two gunshots cut short his dream of an NBA career. So basically like the life of 50 Cent but replace “rapper” with “basketball player.” The film is said to still be fairly low budget as the new Death Row entire operations was recently purchased out of bankruptcy for $18 million. The new president of the company Lara Levi stated the following:

“This film embodies what we’re trying to do with Death Row, to tell human stories that don’t always have happy endings, and that allow us to learn from violence and disenfranchised lives, but not glorify it.”

“We’re looking at film properties that relate to “Boyz ‘n the Hood”-type stories, and to power the films with Death Row music,” Lavi said.

In the mean time, Lavi continues to look for ways to make money off of the catalog while physical CD sales continue to plummet. The label has already secured deals to license Death Row songs for EA Games, TV’s “CSI” and “Cold Case.” On one hand it’s good to see Death Row still alive and kicking…on the other hand we can’t just help but think that the Death Row name and catalog is now just getting pimped out to the highest bidder. Somewhere Pac is turning in his grave.
