We have exclusive word straight from the folks at HP about what makes the upcoming Dr. Dre HP Envy laptop so freakin’ special. The most obvious difference is the all black matte casing with the glowing Dr. Dre “Beats” logo on the top…Yea. Hell Yea… but it doesn’t take a computer genius to see that difference. What will make the Dr. Dre x HP Envy so special in which they declare as the “Mac killer” is not just the sleek design but true to Dr. Dre style…it’s all about the sound. The HP Envy will be the first laptop to feature a “cutting-edge” sound system designed by Dr. Dre’s sound engineers labeled “Beats Audio.” The “Beats Audio” sound software was developed by the same folks that engineer Dre’s tracks and also helped design the Beats by Dre headphone line.
According to HP, Dre has developed “…a unique, high-performance audio software solution. Available exclusively on the HP Envy, Beats Audio offers users playing music or audio through headphones or external speakers the optimal sound experience – the way the artist intended it.”
HP would not give us any further details at this time about the Beats Audio software but did mention for us (and our readers) to be on the lookout for more information as the HP Envy and the Dr. Dre Edition hit stores on October 18th with prices starting at a very Mac-like $1,699 and up. Rumors that the Dr. Dre edition will include the Beats by Dre headphones were neither confirmed or denied. More info. to come. More pics after the jump…

Also t the person comparing an ASUS laptop thats retarded. Mac is a premium brand. Its liek comparing a cheescake factory cheesecake to a walmart cheesecake. sure there both cheesecake and one cost like half of what the other one does, but your not gonna get teh quality out of it. As somebody who conciders myself somewhat of an audiophile, i will tell you, the best sounding music is not something that has had software fuck with it, nor the stuff you download online. This Beats name is nothing but another overpriced monster brand that doesn’t give you anything, for a huge pricetag. I have nothing against Dre, but this sound quality crap is BS. Go vinyl if you want to hear music how it was intended.

This is all a load of bull. You’re practicaly paying about $500 for just the program, that’s typical price for Digital Audio Wokstations. You can get an older desktop for $100 these days, up the RAM and hard-drive, up the Processor, and the Hard-drive and it all ends up together at $500. When working with DAW’s, a desktop is far more stronger then any laptop. Then you can “buy” FL Studio Signature, Pro-tools, Cubase at the same $500 mark up price, and you just saved $600, if you pirate them, you’ll save $1,100.
Acutally Pro tools latest version cost 450$ Something like that. Cubase cost bout 200 something and fl studio the weak full version 150 and the full one cost 200$ So If You Add Bout All Of It up You get bout 950$ plus if you get a Mac Thats Another 1,000 if you get it new.

Hardly anyone in the music industry uses anything other than Mac, in fact most production or recording software is written to interface with Macs easier. Also, someone said mac has crap processors, they obviously haven’t been on Apple’s site lately, they have the same intel chip you can get anywhere else. I have both a Mac and a Toshiba laptop, and I would never use my Toshiba for my Ableton, Pro Tools, and Traktor Scratch. HP has had horrible sales the last few years and needed to pay somebody famous to try and sell a worthless computer

from personal experience – i started out producing music on a dell dimension 3000 desktop. nothing special, but i did upgrade the celeron processor to a P4. i never had a problem with that computer, it was rock solid. took a while to render tracks sometimes, but never froze, never shut down, never overheated. so i thought that’s just how it was. i wanted to ‘upgrade’ to a newer HP laptop. more memory, faster processor, etc. now i’m sitting here with a computer that i can’t turn on for more than 15 minutes without it overheating, shutting down, freezing up, or just generally fucking up. producing a track for more than 15 minutes at a time is out of the question, and now i haven’t produced or remixed anything in a while because i get discouraged everytime i look at my laptop. i’ll never buy another HP or Compaq product again. as far as mac vs. pc – let’s just be real. read the credits off any billboard TOP 10 cd – look and see where the tracks were recorded, mixed down, and/or mastered. call up any of those studios and just ask – “Do you use a PC setup or Mac?” You’ll hear MAC 90% of the time. i don’t care for Mac’s personally, i grew up using PC’s and i’m too stuck in my ways to switch to something new, but I do know that Mac’s are more reliable.

For the extra you’ll pay for this ‘vague’ hardware, just buy a real portable audio interface like an RME Babyface for PC, or an Apogee Duet/One, if you have a Macbook Pro. If you’re even slightly serious about music, it’s time to think seriously and not be influenced by the CGI and Timbaland making strange faces. Even the cheapest laptop model is guaranteed to sound better that this with RME or Apogee taking care of the sound…or any other prosumer/pro dedicated audio interface for that matter.
