Judge sides with Tupac family in movie rights case

Judge sides with Tupac family in movie rights case

Way back in March we were the first on the net to publish the court case documents regarding the Tupac movie that is currently stuck in a legal battle. Basically Morgan Creek Entertainment sued Amaru Entertainment (Tupac’s estate controlled by his mother) that Amaru backed out of a deal to produce a Tupac biopic. Amaru then fired back in court stating that Morgan Creek sabotaged their efforts to pitch the movie to any other studios or production companies. Well according to recent filings supplied by Amaru Entertainment, a court judge has decided to take Amaru’s case to court and let a jury decide the fate.

Skip Miller of Miller Barondess, LLP in Los Angeles, attorney for Amaru Entertainment, said “We are pleased with the court’s ruling yesterday morning.  It supports our claim that Morgan Creek tortiously interfered with the making of the Tupac Shakur movie.   I look forward to trying this case and have the jury decide the matter.  Morgan Creek has a history of bullying people into giving them rights they did not acquire.  This time, they picked on the wrong people.”

In the ruling yesterday, the court held that Amaru adequately stated a claim against Morgan Creek for interference by making “intentional misrepresentations of fact to third-party studios claiming to own the film rights and threatening them to back off on further negotiations with Amaru Entertainment.” That’s all well and good but we just hope that when the Tupac movie does come to life…and make no mistake it will…we just hope it’s done right and with all the music…which unfortunately the new Death Row still owns a good majority of. We’ll have more as it comes in.

PICS: Jay-Z’s Arthur Ashe x Rocawear U.S. Open tennis shirt

PICS: Jay-Z’s Arthur Ashe x Rocawear U.S. Open tennis shirt

Jay-Z x U.S. Open. This is one collaboration we never saw coming. Jay-Z took some time out from his new album to team up with the U.S. Open as he designed this commemorative Arthur Ashe shirt under the Rocawear label. The shirt will actually be sold at the U.S. Open and proceeds will go to the USTA National Junior Tennis and Learning Center and the Arthur Ashe Endowment for the Defeat of AIDS. That’s right. The U.S. Open is officially supporting Jay-Z and Rocawear. Maybe this is their way to take some of those urban city basketball players off the b-ball court and on to the tennis court. Check the pic of the shirt.

VH-1 announces Bobby Brown “Behind the Music” espisode

VH-1 announces Bobby Brown “Behind the Music” espisode

50 Cent. Interesting. Lil Wayne? Not bad. But a “Behind the Music” on Bobby Brown? Now that’s gonna be mind-blowing. VH-1 just released the following statement about the upcoming episode:

“After being kicked out of New Edition and independently establishing himself as the undisputed “King of R&B,” Bobby spun himself into a fast life of drugs and women. Brown eventually married American Pop Princess, Whitney Houston and after an 11-year publically turbulent marriage the two divorced. Bobby Brown relays his life in the spotlight and all of the hardships and glories that he’s faced as one of the most controversial entertainers in R&B.”

While most will remember Bobby for Whitney, the drugs and his prerogative….he will always have a special place in our WoooHa hearts as Bobby of Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike and Ralph. Johnny don’t count. Episode airs Sept 24th. Via: RR

VIDEO: DJ AM promo videos & marketing for “DJ HERO” will go on

VIDEO: DJ AM promo videos & marketing for “DJ HERO” will go on

DJ AM x DJ Hero. DJ AM was a big supporter of the upcoming Activision game DJ Hero including his work remixing a handful of tracks for the game and for filming a series of promo videos stressing the importance of the DJ. With the passing of AM, Activision is suddenly placed in the awkward position of what to do with AM’s marketing material. In a tasteful move, the home page of DJ Hero pays tribute to the fallen DJ and they will continue to push (but not exploit) AM’s involvement in the game. Activision had the following official statement:

We are deeply saddened by the loss of DJ AM, who was a tremendous talent, a trusted partner and friend to DJ Hero. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family. AM was instrumental in the making of DJ Hero and we hope that his work on the game will be a fitting tribute to his creative spirit and musical talent.

Here is the current promo vid of AM that Activision will continue to use in their online marketing campaign along with a couple of the tracks he remixed for the game. RIP DJ AM.
