Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” projected for $250 million opening weekend
AEG, owners and producers of the upcoming MJ movie, are internally projecting an astounding $250 million 5-day opening for the flick. That’s big. To put that in perspective, IF the movie does perform that well it would out gross Spider Man and Harry Potter 5-day opening weekend numbers. Sony, the studio marketing and distributing the film, is a bit more cautious with these projections and according to sources is a bit worried that they publicity of all the sold out screenings will actually scare off potential movie-goers.
Although the opening day pre-sell tickets have broke Fandango records there still will be plenty of theaters to see it in as theaters will increase screen counts to make up for the demand. And what does AEG have to say about all the pre-success it is enjoying? Well…the CEO of AEG was quoted as saying “He (Michael Jackson) was our partner in life and now he’s our partner in death.” At least it is clear who is making the money off of MJ’s death.
