WHAT
BEATERATOR Video Game
THE INFO
Super Producer Timbaland teams up with Rockstar Games for this beat making game that is only available on the PSP. Right from the get-go it’s clear that Beaterator IS NOT a video game…it’s literally a beat making program similar to those you can buy for your PC or MAC. It comes with hundreds of pre-loaded loops for drum, bass, synthesizer and keyboards all with the classic Timbaland sound.
THE GOOD
Once you get used to the somewhat complex and crammed interface, Beaterator is a lot of fun and for those who have played with music editing and beat making programs, this packs quite the punch all on the PSP. The repeatability of the software is also very high as you can record your own tracks, upload your own loops and interface with others. Once you are done creating your music you can also instantly export it to a wav format.

THE BAD
It’s complex. While the software and the resulting beats are definitely legit, it’s much easier to reproduce on the computer at home. Looking at the tiny PSP screen and mixing and matching your beats and loops can be quite annoying at times with the sucky PSP buttons.

THE RESULT
Worth the $40 if it you are a true beat junkie and what the convenience of making true pro sounding beats right on your PSP. For those who want to take their beat making skills more seriously, stick to the computer based programs which let you fly through the interface with the convenience of a big monitor and a mouse…and none of those lame PSP buttons. Overall, the interface will probably prove too complex and time consuming for casual gamers…but once you are used to it all, Beaterator is a legit fun music making program that will def come in handy when you need something to record those beats in your head.

Having it on PSP was the kiss of death
Well why doesnt Timbaland just release his own branded software then on Mac? If Dre can brand headphones Tim sure can brand some beat making software that ISNT for a game.
Dre’s HP laptop has extra keys, which I presume are programmable for his software. Timbaland would have to release his own hardware too unless he works on the existing keyboard. No way Apple is going to endorse Timbaland or change their design for him.
Timbaland created this to make us feel what’s like to make a beat? I believe Eminem will also be featured on DJ Hero. If you were to choose between the two artists, what game will you purchase?
