Cirque du Soleil to develop Michael Jackson show

Michael Jackson x Cirque du Soleil.
It was announced today that the famed circus/arts troupe Cirque du Soleil will develop a series of shows based on the music of Michael Jackson. Continuing with their themed Vegas shows, the MJ show will include touring and permanent shows and a nightclub to open in Las Vegas…hopefully not Circus, Circus…b/c you know…the kids. The first project from the partnership will be an arena touring show expected to open in late fall 2011.

“Having attended Cirque du Soleil performances with Michael, I know he was a huge fan,” John Branca, a co-executor of the estate, said in a statement. “We are excited to be partners with Cirque du Soleil to give Michael’s fans a truly unique way to hear, see and feel Michael’s music,” Branca said.

The “Thriller” singer’s estate and Canadian circus company Cirque du Soleil will each own half of each project arising from the partnership. They will split development and production costs, representatives for the estate said.

If the thought of 50 lb. Asian trapeze artists flying through the air to “Thriller” or muscle-bound freaks balancing on each others feet to “Billy Jean” doesn’t get you going…well then..I don’t know what will. Via: Billboard

Benny Boom to direct S.W.A.T. sequel

Benny Boom, who previously directed over 150 hip-hop videos from 50 Cent to Busta Rhymes has taken his film career to new levels. First he directed the movie Next Day Air and now he is officially on board to direct the sequel to the $200 million grossing film S.W.A.T. which starred Samuel L. Jackson and LL Cool J.

Now the sequel comes in the form of S.W.A.T.: Fire Fight with none of the original cast attached to the movie right now. Plot goes like this: Transferred to Detroit to put a local SWAT team through a training regimen, LAPD Lieutenant Paul Cutler finds himself the target of a homicidal genius who is protected by government officials.

No official word on when it will be released but it does sound a lot like direct-to-video at this point. But for Benny Boom it still is some solid directing work on his resume.

50 Cent’s official “GUN” movie poster

We had to confirm that this was indeed the official movie poster to 50 Cent’s next film simply titled Gun. Movie co-stars best bud Val Kilmer, and is produced, written and stars 50 Cent. Hopefully this won’t go the way of their last buddy film Streets of Blood which went straight-to-DVD when no studio was willing to buy or distribute the movie.

What do you think of the poster? Creative or just a rip-off of a potential album or video game cover? Via: The LIFE Files

RIP GURU of GangStarr

RIP GURU. The GangStarr lyricist died today from cancer at the age of 43. “Skillz” in memory of one of our favorite artists. Now please don’t disgrace his death with a bunch of knock-off t-shirts and crappy RIP GURU merchandise. Thanks.

50 Cent to produce “50′s Roots” documentary about slavery for VH-1

50 Cent x 50′s Roots.
50 Cent gets a little deeper in his film career with his upcoming VH1 “Rock Documentary” called 50’s Roots. In the film, 50 will travel to the Deep South in hopes of tracing back his family roots and heritage which inevitably leads to his family’s slave lineage. 50 will also interview members of his family to find out more about the traditions and roots…hopefully none will be asking for money. The “Rock Doc” is being produced in conjunction with 50 Cent and Roadside Entertainment and no definite plans are set yet for when 50′s Roots will air.
