RZA’s movie “Man With the Iron Fist” picked up by Universal Pictures

RZA will play the title character, a blacksmith who forges weapons for the inhabitants of a village in feudal China. – Deadline Hollywood

It’s now official. Word of RZA’s directorial debut Man With the Iron Fist first hit the web almost two years ago when the project was first announced as a partnership with director Eli Roth (Hostel) and mentoring by Quentin Tarantino. Well now the project is actually now fully funded and on its way to production as Universal Pictures has green lighted the film with a $20 million budget. Filming will take place in September in Hong Kong where RZA already has done extensive film research.

“RZA has imagined every tribe, every fighting style, every costume,” Roth said. “He knows kung fu like I know horror.”

Roth will be a producing partner in the flick but it will be RZA’s directorial debut as he also will score the entire soundtrack. This is big news for any Wu-Tang fan and any fan of martial arts flicks. Hopefully he can breath new life into the genre and deliver everything that Ninja Assassin was supposed to be. Via: DHD

Drake searching for perfect movie role

“…I’ve just been getting the typical projects that they’d offer to a new rapper, and it’s like, ehh. That’s not really what I want to do, or how I see myself.” – Drake

Drake is one of the few rappers who actually was a legitimate full-time actor BEFORE he made it big as an MC. While not known here in the U.S., Drake was a regular on the high school drama Degrassi: The Next Generation where he played a basketball star who became physically disable after he was shot by a classmate (photo above). Drake ended his role after eight years but with his new found fame is in hopes of some acting roles that will expand beyond the typical “rapper-turned-actor” work.

“That’s probably my biggest goal is to get back into acting and really pick the right projects. I’ve been reading different scripts but I know what I want to do and what type of project I want to be involved in and I’ve just been getting the typical projects that they’d offer to a new rapper, and it’s like, ehh. That’s not really what I want to do, or how I see myself,” states Drake.

Well once he gets that actual album released then maybe then casting agents will start calling in…but for now…how picky can he really afford to get? Via: RR

Judge denies DMX request to film “Celebrity Rehab”

A judge has denied rapper DMX’s request to leave the state so he can be a part of Dr. Drew Pinsky’s “Celebrity Rehab”- TMZ

DMX is currently in jail in Arizona for violating his probation but Dr. Drew offered to treat DMX at his rehab clinic in California and in doing so be taped for his VH1 show “Celebrity Rehab.” A judge from the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona rejected the because according to reports, DMX is already doing well in his current Arizona appointed substance abuse program. The judge did state that DMX can be part of the TV show in July but by then the taping for the show will already have finished.

This is bad news for VH1 who definitely would have enjoyed a big ratings boost with DMX on board. On the other hand this is probably better news for DMX in that he is finally getting the real help he needs to get his life back on track. Via: TMZ
