Jimmy Iovine might be the head of Interscope but he sure is about diversifying these days. He brokered Dre, Diddy and Gaga’s Monster headphone deals and now Jimmy and Mary J. Blige have announced their sunglasses partnership with Orange 21, a sunglasses manufacturer and distributor. The first Melodies by MJB collection will feature four styles with a total of 20 color options. Each unique style will represent a specific facet of Blige’s life.

Said Iovine, “To reach out beyond music, an artist has to become involved with something they’re already associated with and truly feel passionate about and not just stick their name on someone else’s product. As her fans know, Mary loves fashion and she especially loves sunglasses, making Melodies by MJB a natural fit for her.”

You can be sure Iovine will continue to leverage his artists’ popularity and push more lifestyle consumer products with them. Since music doesn’t pay the way it used to this seems to be the natural next step in what labels will deal with. Via: MarketWatch

Since T.I. has been a free man he’s been all business. The free time locked away has given him more direction in his business ventures, specifically his AKOO clothing line. He recently told MTV that he has big plans for AKOO.

“The direction of the clothing line, in my eyes, is upscale urban apparel,” Tip said, sitting in the Ace Hotel. “I just wanna continue to diversify. Continue to grow. Continue to speak to the cool kids of America. That’s my idealistic outcome.”

“It’s all gonna be comfortable,” Tip said of his clothes. “Everything is gonna be comfortable, casual. To me, we got V-neck tees, crew-neck tees, wovens. Denim is a big part of the lines. We actually pride ourselves on the quality of our denim, especially at the price point we at. We got fleece. We got a lot of imagery, distinctive imagery on our pieces, that sets us apart from everything else going on out there.”

In true Diddy fashion, the music mogul has just announced an unofficial campaign to get him “elected” as Simon Cowell’s replacement on “American Idol.” The whole idea stemmed after Diddy met with Cowell’s business manager and found out how much the AI judge makes per week.

“I want everybody to get on Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and say that Diddy should get the Simon spot — but for the same amount of money that Simon was getting, else it’s a deal-breaker,” Diddy stated.

At least he’s not hiding the fact that this is strictly for the money. Not sure how those millions of AI fans though will feel about that. What do you think? Diddy as the next Simon Cowell?

Pharrell might own the Billionaire Boys Club clothing rights, but it’s Jay-Z who has actually made his way into the New York billionaires breakfast club. Hova, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, billionaire developer Bruce Ratner, and NJ Nets majority owner Mikhail Prokhorov all met for breakfast at Gracie Mansion.

Q-Tip was on hand at the premiere of the movie Holy Rollers where he has a small part in the film. NBC gets the interview with him as he talks about his experiences working on the movie. Check the trailer here.

Warning – if you are expecting highlights of the upcoming Season 7 with plenty of shots of celebs, girls in bikinis and the random hip-hop guest star in this trailer then you will be disappointed. Trailer plays more like a fashion shoot of five dudes so watch at own risk.

With that said…expect some wild and crazy things in store for Vince and the gang when “Entourage” returns to HBO on June 27th.
