RZA will play the title character, a blacksmith who forges weapons for the inhabitants of a village in feudal China. – Deadline Hollywood
It’s now official. Word of RZA’s directorial debut Man With the Iron Fist first hit the web almost two years ago when the project was first announced as a partnership with director Eli Roth (Hostel) and mentoring by Quentin Tarantino. Well now the project is actually now fully funded and on its way to production as Universal Pictures has green lighted the film with a $20 million budget. Filming will take place in September in Hong Kong where RZA already has done extensive film research.
“RZA has imagined every tribe, every fighting style, every costume,” Roth said. “He knows kung fu like I know horror.”
Roth will be a producing partner in the flick but it will be RZA’s directorial debut as he also will score the entire soundtrack. This is big news for any Wu-Tang fan and any fan of martial arts flicks. Hopefully he can breath new life into the genre and deliver everything that Ninja Assassin was supposed to be. Via: DHD
