New Public Enemy “Sellaband” deal still not working

As we reported back in April, Public Enemy and website Sellaband restructured their arrangement deal as PE was unable to get the original $250K needed to fund their next album. The new terms were that fans only needed to fund $75K. A respectable figure you would think. However, even with this new deal, things are not going as planned for Public Enemy or the Sellaband website. To date, Public Enemy has only met 74% of the goal ($56K of the $75K). Yes, they will make their goal but the fact that it is taking this long shows the broken logic behind Sellaband.

Why should fans have to PAY to help the album get made then pay to actually own it? Especially at a time when people can barely afford rent or their latest trip to McDonald’s. Regardless, as life long PE fans we hope this all works out but something tells me after this PE deal is done…don’t expect any big time rappers to come following.

VIDEO: Are 3D music videos the future of hip-hop?

From the big office returns of films like Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans, 3D has been the latest saving grace of the film industry. So it was only a matter of time before an artist came out with a 3D music video. Rhymefest drops “Say Wassup” (above) with animated drawings BUT to get the full effect you must rock the old school blue and red 3D glasses. Although this is a simple video it does pave the way for artists with bigger music  video budgets to play around with the possibility of a 3D music video.

The number one issue of course is cost. Filming in true 3D (not 2D converted to 3D) can run more than four times the production costs of shooting in 2D. But for a nice marketing hook we wouldn’t be surprised to see Kanye, Diddy or Wayne drop the first live action 3D hip-hop video. It would be easy enough to partner with a retailer to distribute the glasses. Imagine how nice them video girls will look…so good it’s like you can almost touch them.

MUSIC VIDEO: Young Jeezy – “Stop Playin’ Wit Me + My Camaro”

You get a double feature of Jeezy with this one as he drops two videos in one. The one we are more interested in is My Camaro which reminds us a lot of Latifah’s deal with Ford and the Mustang for her video “Fast Car.” Only difference is Latifah had a front end deal with Ford to promote the car and got paid…Chevrolet currently has no deal with Jeezy so he’s doing it for the love.

VIDEO: Mariah Carey performs for WalMart shareholders

Mariah made a rare appearance and performance in Fayetville, AK as she performed a medley of his for WalMart shareholders. Why would Mariah travel to Arkansas to perform you might ask? Well it’s quite simple. WalMart controls over 50% market share of physical CD sales so if she wants to have a strong in-store presence when her albums drop…what better way to help your cause than to impress the shareholders. I’m sure there was a slight “performance fee” involved to help sweeten the deal though.

VIDEO: Pharrell’s cameo w/ Diddy in “Get Him to the Greek”

Diddy has received fairly positive reviews for his performance in Get Him to the Greek which opened this past weekend at #2 behind Shrek Forever After at $17.4 million box office. For those who saw the film, they also got a nice cameo with Pharrell who plays a gangster rapper signed under Diddy’s label.

Yes that was gangster rapper and Pharrell in the same sentence. While we don’t have the actual clip, here is some footage from the scene where producer Judd Apatow talks what it was like working with Diddy.
