From the big office returns of films like Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans, 3D has been the latest saving grace of the film industry. So it was only a matter of time before an artist came out with a 3D music video. Rhymefest drops “Say Wassup” (above) with animated drawings BUT to get the full effect you must rock the old school blue and red 3D glasses. Although this is a simple video it does pave the way for artists with bigger music video budgets to play around with the possibility of a 3D music video.
The number one issue of course is cost. Filming in true 3D (not 2D converted to 3D) can run more than four times the production costs of shooting in 2D. But for a nice marketing hook we wouldn’t be surprised to see Kanye, Diddy or Wayne drop the first live action 3D hip-hop video. It would be easy enough to partner with a retailer to distribute the glasses. Imagine how nice them video girls will look…so good it’s like you can almost touch them.

I would elect Kanye to do a 3D video. I dont like his music but I think he would be the best on the creative end.
There are only a handful of artists that would be given that type of budget though.
Yea and only a handful of artists we would trust to really make a breakthru 3D video.
