Nicki Minaj first female with #1 Billboard rap single in 7 years

It’s official. Nicki Minaj is the new face of female rap as her single “Your Love” is the first #1 rap single on the Billboard charts by a female since Lil Kim’s “Magic Stick” back in 2003. If you take in the fact that 50 Cent also took joint credit for “Magic Stick” then you have to go back to Missy Elliott’s “Work It” in 2002 as the last #1 rap single by a female artist. Regardless, this is good news for the Young Money artist proving so far that she’s just not all hype…of course her actual album sales will be the real proof.

Black Eyed Peas claim James Cameron is directing a 3D concert film for them

will.i.am recently told “VIBE” that he has teamed up with James Cameron to release a Black Eyed Peas 3D concert film. He states:

Right now we are planning our 3-D tour movie and James Cameron is directing it…We have the biggest director because we are the biggest group on the planet. The Peas are filming it in South America. People will be able to see us in the theater with the 3-D glasses and everything.

There will be a storyline that [Cameron] came up with, which will be dope…It’s a full-length film and it’s based around our tour activities.

This is pretty crazy news for the entire music industry if this is true. For BEP to land the biggest director in film history to pull off something like this could change the way that concert films are perceived by the public and the music industry…that and you can see Fergie pee on stage in full 3D! Cameron and will.i.am both are supporters of the Samsung 3D TVs so expect a consumer products tie-in as well.

Pharrell teams w/ Creative Cycles for custom Harley

As part of a recent magazine feature, “Rides Magazine” teamed up with Pharrell Williams and Creative Cycles on a custom Harley Davidson motorcycle. Pharrell had full creative control over the project and surprisingly it’s not colored bright pink or green with the flashy BBC/Ice Cream logos all over it.

Instead he went army style and BBC/Ice Creamed out the Harley with just small touches like the trademark BBC digi-camouflage on the seat. So now Pharrell can add “motorcycle” to things he has helped design which now includes furniture, candles, bicycles, clothing and of course our favorite, lotion bottles. Via: HS

Eminem with 7 singles on the Billboard Hot 100

I guess that’s what happens when you have the top selling album of the year. Eminem pulls a Drake and lands seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Straight from Billboard:

In addition to Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” arriving at No. 2 on the Hot 100, “Not Afraid,” the first single from “Recovery,” drops 9-11; it spent a week at No. 1 in May. The two titles are joined by five other debuts on the Hot 100 from the rap superstar’s new album: “No Love” (No. 23), “Won’t Back Down” (No. 62), “Cold Wind Blows” (No. 71), “Talkin’ 2 Myself” (No. 88) and “25 to Life” (No. 92). The seven songs on the Hot 100 from “Recovery” sold a combined 701,000 downloads.

VIDEO: BET explains video glitch was reason for no GURU tribute

TV

We were one of the ones complaining about the lack of any GURU tribute or mention during the BET Awards but looks like it was all due to video glitch. Stephen Hill, BET’s Executive Vice President of Entertainment and Music Programming, explained that they had a video package ready which included a GURU tribute but due to technical issues they were not able to air it.

Ok. It sounds believable. Plus they actually released the video which is shown above.
