Jay-Z collaborates with Bing for an online interactive game and campaign which will help promote his upcoming book – “Decoded.” Players of the game answer clues to find the DECODED pages in the online game experience at Bing.com/jay-z, or in-person by locating the clues in NYC, London and beyond. Any player who locates a page online, or in-person (by texting unique game codes from the page) is entered into a drawing for a prize. Players who are the first to discover the pages will be eligible to win a signed copy of the book and the grand prize, a trip to Las Vegas to see Jay-Z and Coldplay in a New Year’s Eve concert. According to comScore, Bing, the decision engine from Microsoft, accounted for 11.2 percent of searches in September, behind Google, with 66.1 percent, and Yahoo, with 16.7 percent, this promotion could propel many to the site for the first time.
In a New York Times article, Eric Hadley, general manager of marketing for Bing said “We want to drive users into this experience.”
In this unique deal Bing will be paying for the campaign and not the publisher. In return the site, and the Bing logo, will be featured prominently in all outdoor ads. “Decoded” will hit store shelves on November 16, published by Spiegel & Grau amd retails for $35.
