50 Cent’s latest movie “Gun” to go STRAIGHT-TO-DVD

Just when it was announced earlier that 50 Cent has secured a $200 million investment to fund his Cheetah Vision studios comes this news. WoooHa can exclusively confirm that 50′s latest film Gun will be going straight to video. This is the third straight 50 Cent movie under the Cheetah Vision banner to get the straight-to-video deal. 50 can gloat all he wants that his straight-to-video business is profitable for him, but SOMEBODY is losing money on these deals. Gun also stars Val Kilmer and joins Streets of Blood and Caught in the Crossfire to not have a theatrical release. Gun is set to hit stores January 4, 2011 via Image Entertainment and will be released on DVD and Blu-ray. Get your gun in hi-def. Check out the art for Gun exclusively here at WoooHa. Also check out the new trailer after the jump…

Lil Wayne to bundle new album with Def Jam Rapstar video game

This seems to be a rising trend…bundling music albums with video games. Part of the reason? Every album that is bundled with a game counts as an automatic sale since games are non-returnable by retailers. Lil Wayne and Def Jam have announced that Wayne’s new album I Am Not A Human will be bundled with Def Jam Rapstar at Best Buy from Oct 12 to Oct 19th. This will be sure to boost Wayne’s numbers since, according to Billboard‘s logic, if a million Rapstars were packaged and shipped with Wayne’s album into Best Buy that would count as a million sales of the album as well. Let’s see if this type of deal can really move the needle for the game though. Will be interesting to see the results.

Shyne already wants to bail out of 7 figure Def Jam deal

Sounds like a whole bunch of Nas going on over at Def Jam right now. After signing his seven figure deal less than a year ago, Shyne is already wanting to jump ship for the all powerful Cash Money Records. Straight from SOHH:

“I’m definitely trying to get with Cash Money but the Def Jam thing is a question mark right now,” Shyne told SOHH. “I’ve been fixing to get up out of there for a while now because [Island Def Jam CEO] L.A. Reid don’t care about hip-hop. The people up there, they don’t know what they’re doing. When you don’t have a strong leader, where you gonna go? … They don’t care about hip-hop music. You give them a hip-hop record with an R&B singer, you “might” have a chance. They don’t care. You got The Roots, Ghostface, Nas, probably the best hip-hop roster you could imagine and they do nothing. L.A. Reid doesn’t want nothing to do with rappers — it’s nothing personal, I don’t have nothing personal with dude but he makes it known he doesn’t care about hip-hop. So I’m really interested in seeing who’s gonna replace him. Because I know he’s been replaced — so I wanna find out who’s gonna take his spot before I decide what I’m gonna do with Def Jam…The music that we make is responsible for pop, R&B, everything that’s jumping right now…”

50 Cent’s film production company lands $200 million in funding

Some how 50 Cent has turned his straight-to-DVD factory known as Cheetah Vision Productions into a $200 million investment. It was announced that health care executive Richard Jackson and real estate developers Gary Sakwa and Daniel Ret will be fronting the cash for 50 and production partner Randall Emmett to produce 10 more films for the next two years. Either these guys are really bad at business or they know something we don’t. So far every one of 50′s Cheetah Vision films has gone or will go straight to video…some cashing out at $5 million a picture against $20 million budgets. Some where the math doesn’t add up. BUT…for 50 this is all good. He’s taking candy from a baby and you can only give him mad props for this.

“The thing about ’50 Cent’ is that, just like in his music career, he isn’t someone who sits around and waits for things to get done. He came to me and said, ‘How do we move quicker on projects?’ With this new fund, we are able to do that,” Randall Emmett told Variety.

The next films under the deal are Set Up, which started shooting last month, in addition to Catch .44, which stars Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker and Malin Ackerman. Expect 50 to start focusing much more on his film career with this deal…it’s clear this is where the money is now. The films will be distributed through a deal with Lionsgate. Seriously, mad props to 50 Cent and Randall Emmett for pulling this off during a time when film funding is almost dried up.

Nicki Minaj breaks Billboard record with 7 songs in Hot 100

Nicki Minaj has established herself as the current go-to female MC all without releasing a full-length album. The Young Money star has set a new record on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart by having the most singles on the chart at one time, with seven entries including Ludacris’ “My Chick Bad”, Lil Wayne’s “Knockout”, Trey Songz’ “Bottoms Up”, Usher’s “Lil Freak”, Sean Kingston’s “Letting Go (Dutty Love)”, and Jay Sean’s “2012.” Per Soundscan, the songs have reached close to $4.3 million in sales. Now of course Minaj doesn’t pocket that money, as each deal is either a flat rate for her to appear on or a small percentage of royalties, but even Minaj’s main single “Your Love” has reached a staggering $755k in sales all without a video.
