For any ATCQ fans, Michael Rapaport’s long-awaited ATCQ documentary Beats, Rhythms and Life is a must see. Rapaport has been busy getting ready to premiere the movie at Sundance but as previously reported, Q-Tip isn’t that happy with the final cut of the film. For the first time, Rapaport goes on record with MTV for his explanation of why Q-Tip wasn’t happy.

“I think the reason he did his little Twitter thing was because when he realized that the movie was coming to completion and going to get seen by people,” Rapaport said. “I can’t really speak for him but I think he got a little nervous. He’s a very protective of the legacy of A Tribe Called Quest and the movie is a very honest depiction of my time with them and the information that I was given in interviews and content.”

There seems to be a pattern with these hip-hop docs that are filmed/directed by an outsider. These docs seem like a cool idea to the artist but once they see the final cut and how they are actually portrayed, the artist panics. Producer QD3 faced the same issue when Lil Wayne did not want him to release his The Carter documentary.

Although 50 Cent had the majority of  publicity around the announcement of his headphone deal at CES, Ludacris was quietly pushing his new headphone deal with his branded Soul Headphones line. Dre goes guerrilla style in announcing the official release date to Detox. According to Dre’s video here with Just Blaze, Detox will be released on the un-official national weed day of 4/20 of this year. Of course we have heard Detox was coming out about five years ago so don’t hold your breath on this one. Regardless…nice to finally have an exact date to keep him by.
