Potheads and hippies, we flock. We’re peaceful as hell. You don’t hear about my concerts getting shot up or people getting beat up because they was too high and turned into a weed monster.

Official Tupac Movie Press Release

It’s been in the news for awhile but film production company Morgan Creek has made the Tupac movie officially…official. Here are all the details straight from the press release. And no, the actor playing Pac still has not been cast yet.

Los Angeles, CA February 10, 2011 – Principal photography is scheduled to begin in late Spring/early Summer on the biopic “TUPAC,” it was announced today James G. Robinson, Co-Chairman/CEO, and Rick Nicita, Co-Chairman/COO, of Morgan Creek Productions. Directed by Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day,” “Brooklyn’s Finest”), the film will be shot on location in Los Angeles, New York, Georgia and Las Vegas and is currently being cast.

The film chronicles the life and legacy of Tupac Shakur, including his rise to superstardom as a hip hop artist and actor, as well as his imprisonment and prolific, controversial time at Death Row Records, where he was steeped in the East coast/West coast rap war.

In her support of the upcoming biopic of her late son, Afeni Shakur-Davis said, “I am confident that Morgan Creek will stay true to the common goal we share of depicting Tupac’s life in a way that will allow the world to see the authenticity of his artistry, his hopes, and his life goals.“

Commented producer LT Hutton,”I am honored to be part of the process that is bringing his life and legacy to the big screen. I am thankful to Afeni Shakur for giving this project her blessing and to Morgan Creek for giving it the green light.”

“TUPAC” will be produced by James G. Robinson, David Robinson and LT Hutton, and executive produced by Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur. The screenplay was written by Steve Bagatourian, Stephen J. Rivele & Christopher Wilkinson. Universal Pictures distributes in North America and co-distributes with Morgan Creek International overseas.

Morgan Creek’s next film, “DREAM HOUSE”, directed by Jim Sheridan and starring Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz will be released through Universal Pictures on September 30, 2011.

DJ HERO Video Game line officially cancelled

Activision has officially put a stop to their DJ Hero franchise including the development of 2011′s DJ Hero 3. The news comes with the announcement that the video game publisher is also putting a stop to Guitar Hero as well. Activision states:

“Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing’s DJ Hero business unit and discontinue development on its DJ Hero game for 2011.These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world’s best interactive entertainment experiences.”

Guess this finally means the death of those music instrument based games. Even Eminem and Jay-Z couldn’t save the DJ Hero franchise. Time to put it to bed.

Magic Johnson to become new Chairman of VIBE

After previous unsuccessful attempts to purchase JET & Ebony Magazine, Earvin “Magic” Johnson has successfully become the new main man at VIBE with a reported eight-figure deal. Deal calls for Magic to become the new Chairman of VIBE Holdings, the parent company of Vibe magazine and music-and-dance TV show Soul Train, the Wall Street Journal reported. Magic Johnson Enterprises has teamed with Ron Burkle’s Yucaipa Cos. on the deal.

“We intend to build one of the most important enterprises in urban media,” Burkle stated.

Vibe plans to use the new infusion of cash to invest in more African-American media assets. It previously closed down in June 2009 but was then relaunched as a print magazine and online network. Hopefully Magic can boost up the once prominent VIBE name. Just as long as he doesn’t decide to do another talk show.
