Xzibit x Bad Lieutenant. WoooHa has exclusively learned that the action crime drama The Bad Lieutenant co-starring Nicolas Cage and Xzibit will have such a short theatrical run in theaters that it technically could be labeled as the dreaded straight-to-DVD. We have been covering this film for some time now and were excited that Xzibit was taking on one of his largest roles yet.

Unfortunately the November 20th release date is just a legal formality as the movie will only be shown in a handful of theaters in a couple of cities to make way for a February 23, 2010 DVD and Blu-Ray release. Industry site Blu-ray.com confirms our findings. Although the news is a bit disheartening and reminds us of the 50 Cent straight-to-DVD film Streets of Blood, we still plan on seeing this flick in the theaters just for the plain bad-assness.

50 Cent x Dead Man Running. 50 Cent’s new film Dead Man Running hits theaters this coming Friday but you won’t be able to see it here in the U.S. The indie low-budget film will only be playing in limited theaters in the U.K. and select parts of Europe. Luckily for you WoooHa readers, the film production company, Revolver Entertainment, was nice enough to send us pics of their official movie poster where 50 Cent is clearly the main marketing hook. The Weinstein Company, the studio home of Lil Wayne and Bow Wow’s Post-Katrina basketball film Hurricane Season, has just announced their 2009 – 2010 film slate. Unfortunately for those involved in making Hurricane Season and those Wayne fans hoping to get a glimpse of him playing a punk high school kid, the movie has been dropped from the schedule…again. Many involved with the film were optimistic that it would get a proper release but due to major financial issues facing the Weinstein Company including recent layoffs, the film has been shelved indefinitely. In a recent interview with the Times Picayune – New Orleans, Hurricane Season producer Raymond Brothers still hopes for the best.

“We’re very grateful to the Weinstein Co. and (sister company) Dimension for making the movie in New Orleans — we spent $50 million in New Orleans. The movie tested extremely well, and we’re very hopeful that in a very short period of time we’ll come to some resolution about the release date.”

Considering the multi-million dollar budget, urban appeal with Lil Wayne and Bow Wow and major star appeal with Forest Whitaker, one hopes this movie will not get the dreaded straight-to-DVD treatment. Some Wayne fan out there needs to start a petition and get this movie in theaters.

Love him or hate him Dame Dash always keeps popping up in the latest hip-hop business news for his new ventures. Once a hustler…always a hustler. Personally, WoooHa feels Dame Dash still has plenty to offer the hip-hop world as we await his Blac Roc project and new film with Mos Def. Unfortunately WoooHa has exclusively learned that Dame’s biggest internet project to date, BlockSavvy.com is now dead.

For those who remember, Dash launched BlockSavvy.com back in December of 2006 hoping to capitalize off the popularity of social networking sites like MySpace. BlockSavvy was built to be the “urban lifestyle” version of MySpace but where users could upgrade their virtual neighborhood “block” and design their own rooms using Savvy dollars. Despite a huge PR push and lining up big time advertisers ranging from Toyota to AT&T, BlockSavvy.com was never really able to lift off. Perhaps part of the reason was that Dash was more concerned about making MySpace type money off of the site versus really paying attention and focusing on the user interface and on-site experience.

Back in 2007, CNN Money asked him his reasons for creating the site in which Dash responded, “Money. After MySpace sold for $580 million, we said, damn, we gotta get us some of that.”

So now BlockSavvy.com is dead. Officially dead. The site has been completely removed from the internet and there are no current announced plans to relaunch the site. In the meantime, Dame Dash has already moved on to his next projects leaving the future fate of BlockSavvy to original site developer Kwame Decuir. Will there ever be a BlockSavvy 2.0? With Damon Dash always expect the unexpected…even though no website is in place, they just renewed the rights to the BlockSavvy.com name last month.

Diddy x Sean John. Some how Diddy found time to throw his annual White Party while taking a break from taking over the world. Well now that the party is over…Diddy is back to all business with the launch of his new Sean John Fall clothing collection. We have been covering Streets of Blood for sometime now. We were the first to break their sales trailer that the producers were pitching to studios months ago. But clearly no theatrical studios were interested. For those 50 fans, you might remember that this is the movie where 50 and co-star Val Kilmer formed a strong friendship…to the point that Val bought 50 a classic car.

Anyways, there you have it. All in all it’s not a good week for 50 Cent news. Earlier this week, sales numbers for his game “Blood on the Sand” were released and they were VERY VERY low and now this news about his movie going straight to DVD. The good news though is that 50 has a bunch of other movie projects coming soon including Twelve and a bunch of other projects in the works. Let’s just hope they hit theaters this time though.

UPDATED: After many attempts of trying to reach them directly, a spokesperson for Sears has reached out to us refuting the claims that LL’s clothing line is shutting down. Their official statement as follows:

Sears values its partnership with LL Cool J and will continue its commitment to providing the LL Cool J collection to its customers, both in-store and online. The collection is characterized as affordable, iconic apparel for the family and represents an important breakout brand in Sears’ wide assortment of tees, denim and hoodies.

Our source still says it’s true and it sure wouldn’t be the first time that company public relations says one thing but their own staff says another.

LL Cool J x Sears. WoooHa drops another exclusive and unfortunately it’s not good news…for LL Cool J. In case you haven’t noticed, LL has basically been silent about his Sears clothing line for the past year…and for good reason. A source at the apparel buying department at Sears has exclusively revealed to us that the LL Cool J clothing line is indeed shutting down due to a lack of sales and forced cutbacks from the Recession. We got the drop way back in February but WORD ON THE STREET is now it looks like it’s official.

The benefit to the consumer though is that Sears is drastically cutting prices of all LL Cool J branded apparel from 50%-75% off to clear all existing in-store inventory. Check the official Sears site to directly purchase. Sears had invested millions in bringing LL in as an official spokesperson which included ad campaigns and in-store merchandising. Unfortunately the Recession took a big hit out of his sales and the label never recovered. WoooHa is still waiting for an official response from Sears Corporate to confirm these claims.

Some how I think LL will get over it. Wait…he already did. LL will be starring in the upcoming “NCIS” spin off TV show later this year.

Jermaine Dupri x TAG Records. When Jermaine Dupri was booted from his job at Def Jam earlier this year, there were rumors that Dupri’s deal with TAG Records was in jeopardy as well. Fortunately for Dupri, the Def Jam and TAG Body Spray collaboration was arranged as a separate deal and Dupri kept his job as President of TAG Records…for the time being.

The bottom line though is TAG Records is not doing so hot. Rumored reports are coming in from Proctor & Gamble (TAG Body spray owners) that due to a combination of the economic downturn and the lack of buzz surrounding TAG Record’s initial artist Q Da Kid, P&G budgets will tighten up in future media buys and promotions with TAG Records. Rumor also has it that Def Jam has plans to phase out Dupri’s involvement with TAG Records as well. In a January interview with Essence, Dupri stated the following about his future relationship with TAG and Def Jam:

I don’t know what’s going to happen and that’s the saddest part in dealing with these situations. They try to keep the group to hurt the person who brought these artists to them. The truth is, I can always find another artist but the artist can not find another me. I have to be in a forward motion. One of my biggest focuses is that if you want to do new things you can’t do old things. I can’t be around people that don’t motivate and that’s what happened: a slow motion of people living off checks with no excitement. I’m into excitement.

P&G spent over $10 million to fund the initial launch of TAG Records and used Q as the main spokesperson along with Dupri. This included a full print and TV ad campaign along with aggressive promotions with MTV. That initial campaign was launched over half a year ago and Q still has not released an album, the TAG Records blog is inactive, ad campaign is done with, and it seems like Q is the only one trying to keep TAG Records alive noting in his blog:

TAG still promotes Q Da Kid online but now has moved on to a Battle of the MCs competition. As for other artists in the works or when Q will finally drop his album? We reached out to P&G and TAG Records but they had no comment. The real question will be….when Q drops the album will P&G have any money left to support the actual release?

According to 2008 sales of body spray across the industry, sales dropped over 23% and this was BEFORE the Recession. And with Jermaine Dupri no longer tied to Def Jam, does he have any more motivation to push the label or Q?

WoooHa drops another exclusive as we have obtained the full legal documents to the current case between Afeni Shakur and Morgan Creek Entertainment. The cross complaint documents were just drafted two days ago by Afeni Shakur’s legal team who represents her company Amaru Entertainment (AE).¬†What we do know from the legal docs (obtained with permission from Shakur’s reps) is that Afeni Shakur had been looking for the right film studio partner to make her son’s movie since 1997:

That documentary of course was Tupac: Resurrection. The documents then go on about how due to the success of Tupac: Resurrection that Afeni reopened talks with studios in 2005 to finally produce the Tupac biopic. She talked with various studios including MTV Films, New Line Cinema, The Weinstein Company and Benderspink Productions but all to no avail. This is where it gets interesting. Get all the rest of the juicy details after the jump.

Although Afeni and AE had numerous talks with these various studios it ultimately led to conversations with Morgan Creek in 2008:

What is very clear in the entire twenty-seven page cross complaint is that Pac’s mother was VERY meticulous and careful in ensuring that her son’s life was portrayed the correct way and made by a production team that truly understood what Tupac meant to her and to the world. The document goes on to mention how Morgan Creek entered the discussions in 2008 as both sides negotiated deal points in a draft but still no verbal or written agreement or approval to move forward. But finally, only after Notorious opened well did Morgan Creek say they agreed to the terms and that it was binding. Amura Entartinament argues they never had any such agreement:

So that’s where we stand now. Both sides with different stories, and what you read was Amura Entertainment’s side. The case is still being battled out and who knows when it will end. Other intersting things that came out of the documents though were:

• Jaime Foxx and his production team were in talks to produce the movie
• Bret Ratner (Rush Hour franchise) really wanted to land this deal and was in talks
• Antoine Fuqua (producer & director of Training Day) was also in talks with Shakur

Interesting indeed. I hope for Tupac’s sake and for his family that they get to make this movie with who they want and how they want. T.I. x Takers (AKA Bone Deep). Rap Radar recently did an interview with T.I. where he stars and produces in the upcoming action film Takers (formerly Bone Deep) which also stars Chris Brown. In the interview, Rap Radar asks T.I. directly to comment on our WoooHa story of CB being erased from the marketing in the movie. T.I. replies:

Nah man, that can‚Äôt be further from the truth. There‚Äôs no validity to that statement. I‚Äôm a producer on the movie and I ain‚Äôt put forth no sort of order or request man. And personally, it‚Äôs very, very premature to jump to such a conclusion given that none of these matters have been resolved. No one has been tried or convicted or nothing like that. I‚Äôm not going to jump to no conclusions. I‚Äôm not going to. I think that‚Äôs unfair ’cause that‚Äôs what people did with me, and I‚Äôm not going to do that.

Yeti says: All I have to say is that my sources were legit and my story ran when CB was in the total dog house, before he reconciled with Rihanna, and when the media was ripping him. So at that time I was told, yes they were talking about a Chris Brown contingency plan with the marketing. But now? Well now he’s in the studio recording songs with Rihanna, taking trips with her, etc. He’s safe again. So of course they are going to deny everything and say these talks never happened. That’s all. N.W.A. x Straight Outta Compton. WoooHa drops another exclusive as we have the insider details on the script from the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton. The info. we got (from insider sources working directly on the project) is that the film is at the very early stages of pre-production development with New Line. It’s rumored that the movie was given the green light but apparently the script still needs a lot of revisions as it was coming off too “documentary” type and lacked character development and tension between the group members. Check out all the script details after the jump. None of this should be spoilers if you know your NWA history…

Coming off as too documentary-like makes sense since we know that hip-hop documentary producer S. Leigh Savidge is the original screenplay writer. In fact, last year Savidge produced the movie Straight Outta Puerto Rico which was about the Reggaeton movement and he has produced documentaries ranging from MLK to Death Row Records. We were told the key to the script, which are the parts they are rewriting now, is all about how tight the group was growing up together in South Central before they became famous….really establishing the roots and bond between the group. Next stage is they are bringing in a big-time script writer to revise the original.

The bond that Cube, Dre, Eazy-E, Yella and Ren formed surviving on the streets as teens is the foundation of the movie as we then see them go through trial after trial once they hit the big time. From manager Jerry Heller (who will not be portrayed to kindly in the film), to the fighting between Cube and Eazy-E, to the media backlash that they faced. The movie will show how the group was torn apart and then how they ultimately reconciled during the news of Eazy-E’s bout with AIDs. While the script does touch upon Eazy-E’s death, it is the ties that bind the group from their early days in South Central that bring them back together again as they say final goodbyes to Eazy.

Just like any movie script though expect there to be slight changes but at least we know this will really be about the origins and bond between NWA that could never be broken even through fighting, arrests, drugs, and ultimately death. Man…I’m already looking forward to this movie. I hope it gets made the right way.¬† No casting will be officially announced until the script gets really nailed down. New Line is currently looking at directors. Remember, you heard it here first. You know WoooHa owns the exclusives on the hip-hop movie news.
