DJ HERO Video Game line officially cancelled

Activision has officially put a stop to their DJ Hero franchise including the development of 2011′s DJ Hero 3. The news comes with the announcement that the video game publisher is also putting a stop to Guitar Hero as well. Activision states:

“Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing’s DJ Hero business unit and discontinue development on its DJ Hero game for 2011.These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world’s best interactive entertainment experiences.”

Guess this finally means the death of those music instrument based games. Even Eminem and Jay-Z couldn’t save the DJ Hero franchise. Time to put it to bed.

Ice Cube lends voice for “Call of Duty: Black Ops”

Cube is no stranger to the movie and TV business but looks like he will be jumping into video games as well. And not just any video game…we are talking Call of Duty: Black Ops…probably the most anticipated game of the year. Cube recently Tweeted:

Check me out in Call of Duty: Black Ops, I’m Corporal Bowman.

This Tweet got me excited for two reasons. One, I’m a big fan of the game so it will be cool to hear Cube’s distinctive voice in it. And two, it’s nice to know that a rapper can actually form a somewhat complete sentence on Twitter. COD: Black Ops hits stores November 9th. Via: Kotaku

Lil Wayne to bundle new album with Def Jam Rapstar video game

This seems to be a rising trend…bundling music albums with video games. Part of the reason? Every album that is bundled with a game counts as an automatic sale since games are non-returnable by retailers. Lil Wayne and Def Jam have announced that Wayne’s new album I Am Not A Human will be bundled with Def Jam Rapstar at Best Buy from Oct 12 to Oct 19th. This will be sure to boost Wayne’s numbers since, according to Billboard‘s logic, if a million Rapstars were packaged and shipped with Wayne’s album into Best Buy that would count as a million sales of the album as well. Let’s see if this type of deal can really move the needle for the game though. Will be interesting to see the results.
