Despite the rumors, the sequel to Smokin Aces will not star Common or Alicia Keys. In fact, the sequel will not even have a theatrical release as Universal Pictures will be releasing Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassin’s Ball straight-to-DVD. In its defense the movie was always planned as a straight-to-DVD. Trailer still looks theatrical quality though and definitely some of the signature sex and violence that we have come to expect. Movie hits stores January 19, 2010.

Although Common’s Universal Mind Control album is over a year old there always is room for a new music video. Here is the new video to “Make My Day” which features Cee-Lo.

The Coca-Cola Company, owners of Sprite, will be pushing their new Sprite Green soft drink with a strong urban campaign. Sprite Green is labeled as “the new reduced-calorie Sprite line extension, naturally sweetened, reduced, low and zero-calorie beverages sweetened with TRUVIA natural sweetener” and currently available in major markets. Sounds like the equivalent of Coke Zero. Whatever it is, the Sprite Green urban campaign launch started in a big way as it teamed up with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label for one of many upcoming events.

The event launched in Chicago, home of G.O.O.D. Music with performances by Common, Kid Cudi, GLC and everyone else on the label except for Kayne. Word is that Sprite Green will continue their partnership with various G.O.O.D. Music label artists as they go from coast to coast with various events and roll out the soft drink in more cities. No word yet if Kanye will be personally involved…although at the Chicago event they ironically mixed Sprite Green with Hennessey. For pics from the event head over to The Smoking Section.

The UK tabloid “The Sun” recently reported that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has secured the role of BA Baracus for the upcoming A-Team movie. You might remember that the casting for this role has been running around the Hollywood rumor mill for sometime with everyone from Tyrese, Ice Cube, The Game and most recently Common mentioned as the lead for the role. So it came to a surprise to many around here in Hollywood that Rampage was announced as BA. Well now it turns out the announcement came a bit too early as Rampage’s management flat out denies that he has secured the role. In other words…there still is no BA.

In this spoof video Common plays the role of Ethan Hawke in Training Day while Christopher Mintz-Plasse (AKA McLovin) plays the role of badass Alonzo. No idea why this video was made but it’s pretty amusing. Common sure loves the spoof videos these days.

Common x Queen Latifah x Just Wright. Here are some shots of Common and Queen Latifah on the set of the upcoming comedy Just Wright. Common x Just Right. Looks like we will finally see Common without a gun and an attitude in the movie theaters as he has just landed his first leading actor role in the upcoming comedy Just Right. Movie co-stars fellow rapper/actor Queen Latifah and is about a sports trainer who finds herself falling in love with a professional basketball player while rehabilitating him from a career-threatening injury. Movie also stars Paula Patton aka Mrs. Robin Thicke. Filming starts next month in July for a mid-2010 release.

Since Common is a legit working actor in Hollywood now he gets interviews where he just talks about movies. Here he is sharing his top 5 favorite movies…no Smokin’ Aces is not one of them but they range from Forrest Gump to Usual Suspects.

Common x Terminator Salvation. If you haven’t noticed, studios love to use Common for publicity and interviews because the guy is smooth. There is no denying that. Here he is in a MySpace promo with director McG talking all things Terminator Salvation. Movie hits this Friday.

Common x The A-Team. When word got out that an A-Team movie was in the works back in late 2008, early buzz was that Ice Cube wanted the role of B.A. Baracus since the movie was being directed by John Singleton (who he worked with on Boyz N’ The Hood). My how things have changed. Since then, Singleton has been replaced from the movie by Smokin’ Aces director Joe Carnahan and rumors were running wild that the new director still wanted a rapper/actor to play B.A…but to everyone’s surprise it wasn’t Ice Cube. No. Carnahan wants Common to take on the role.

Common might seem like an odd choice but he and Carnahan really connected while working together on Smokin’ Aces. And since Common’s latest project as The Green Lantern in Justice League: Mortal is still postponed there is a nice empty space for him to jump in the role. Finally after weeks of speculation, Common went public with the rumors surrounding him as B.A. Baracus. In an interview with IESB.net he stated the following:

ESB: Your name keeps popping up, I was at a premiere the other day and was talking to some industry friends and they are like, “[we] would love Common as a certain character in a certain Joe Carnahan movie.‚Äù

Common: (Laughing) Yeah, that would be [something].

IESB: B.A. Baracus

Common: Yeah that would be something cool, but, I mean, let’s see, I can’t speak on it yet until we know what’s going on but that would be an incredible character to play.

IESB: You worked with Carnahan before.

Common: Carnahan is my guy.

IESB: I don’t know if the mohawk is going to work on you. (Laughing)

Common: (laughing) I can’t do the Mohawk but we got to do something, we got to find something to make it work.

IESB: That is something you would like to do?

Common: I would love to, just to work with Joe is so exciting for me I just had such a great experience. I feel that he is one of the freshest directors and innovative guys and fun, he is a quality guy, quality director and man, I just want to work with him.

Word on the street is that an official statement of Common taking on the role should be expected in the coming weeks. You know WoooHa will have the updates. What do you guys think of Common as B.A. Baracus?

Word on the Street. No matter what you hear, WoooHa can confirm with sources directly at Warner Brothers studios that Common is not confirmed for the role as the Green Lantern in either Justice League: Mortal or the actual Green Lantern movie as well.

We broke news back in April that Common will not be cast in the upcoming Green Lantern movie as Warner Brothers has decided to use the original (non-African American) Green Lantern known as Hal Jordan. This makes sense since Hal really was the one who started it all for the Green Lantern franchise. But now new rumors are beginning to surface that Common will be starring in the upcoming resurrected Justice League: Mortal which hits theaters in 2011. These rumors are false according to an unnamed source at the studio.

We were told no casting has been locked for this film but Common was being considered years ago when the project was first brought to the studio. There you have it.

Common x Date Night. Common is usually cast as the brooding silent guy holding a gun in his movies. From Smokin’ Aces, Street Kings, American Gangster and the upcoming Terminator Salvation. But now it looks like he is taking his acting career to the next level…comedies.

Common will be supporting big time comedians Steve Carell and Tina Fey in the upcoming movie Date Night which is about a typical married couple (Carell and Fey) whose typical date night ends up being an adventure they will never forget. Movie also stars Mark Wahlberg, James Franco and Taraji P. Henson. Hopefully Common will not be holding a gun in Date Night. Movie began filming two weeks ago and is set for an April 9, 2010 release.

Common x Diesel. Here it is all you Woo-heads. As we stated a couple weeks back, Common and Diesel teamed up to launch a cologne called “Only the Brave” which includes heavy mall promotions and advertising. Here is the national TV spot that is now running as well. Via: ThinkCommon
