Common x Gatorade. Common is the voice of Gatorade’s new Super Bowl commercial. We’re pretty sure they are not going to pay for a minute and a half spot during Sunday’s game since a 30 second commercial already starts at $2 million. I guess we’ll see the final version and final length on game day.

Common On Working With Gatorade:

I’ve worked with Gatorade before, but not on a commercial. This time me being part of a commercial is really exciting for me me. I’ve seen a lot of their spots lately and I’ve really been intrigued by them, they’ve really been creative… I like that whole “What’s G” and “That’s G.” It feels authentic and pure to me…

They contacted me about this particular commercial just this weekend. Because we already built a relationship they felt I’d be great for this spot they have. It’s really a soulful spot that’s gonna be shown before the Superbowl… It has a soul to it that really depicts what football is about and playing and competing with heart and soul. The visual of it shows the heart and soul of what athletes experience, specifically the football players that were in the playoffs. It shows their experience. The music behind it has a drama to it and a heart to it. When I watched the spot before I even did the recording. I was like Man! It brought emotion to me. That’s what made it soulful. I think it’s the soul of the athletes that bring out the soul of the whole piece.

Coming from the LA Auto Show which was a couple weeks back, rumor has it that Cadillac has been on the hunt for a new hip-hop spokesperson to help launch their CTS-V Coupe and a new flagship model. The rumors were confirmed that Cadillac will “premiere” their new flagship dubbed the XTS in next month’s Detroit Auto Show but no word on who the new spokesperson is or if there really will be one.

Common currently has a promotional deal with Cadillac which included print and TV advertising but will his deal be extended or are they looking for someone else to carry the load to launch the XTS? With Queen Latifah handling the Ford Mustang duties and Diddy wrapped up with Ciroc what other broad-appealing artists out there are big enough to take on an auto partnership? No…don’t say Kanye West.

Despite the rumors, the sequel to Smokin Aces will not star Common or Alicia Keys. In fact, the sequel will not even have a theatrical release as Universal Pictures will be releasing Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassin’s Ball straight-to-DVD. In its defense the movie was always planned as a straight-to-DVD. Trailer still looks theatrical quality though and definitely some of the signature sex and violence that we have come to expect. Movie hits stores January 19, 2010.

The Coca-Cola Company, owners of Sprite, will be pushing their new Sprite Green soft drink with a strong urban campaign. Sprite Green is labeled as “the new reduced-calorie Sprite line extension, naturally sweetened, reduced, low and zero-calorie beverages sweetened with TRUVIA natural sweetener” and currently available in major markets. Sounds like the equivalent of Coke Zero. Whatever it is, the Sprite Green urban campaign launch started in a big way as it teamed up with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label for one of many upcoming events.

The event launched in Chicago, home of G.O.O.D. Music with performances by Common, Kid Cudi, GLC and everyone else on the label except for Kayne. Word is that Sprite Green will continue their partnership with various G.O.O.D. Music label artists as they go from coast to coast with various events and roll out the soft drink in more cities. The UK tabloid “The Sun” recently reported that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has secured the role of BA Baracus for the upcoming A-Team movie. You might remember that the casting for this role has been running around the Hollywood rumor mill for sometime with everyone from Tyrese, Ice Cube, The Game and most recently Common mentioned as the lead for the role. So it came to a surprise to many around here in Hollywood that Rampage was announced as BA. Well now it turns out the announcement came a bit too early as Rampage’s management flat out denies that he has secured the role. In other words…there still is no BA.
