Apple teams up with Beats by Dre headphones

Apple teams up with Beats by Dre headphones

Dr. Dre x Apple. Dre and Jobs. Now that’s a team that is going to be tough to beat. Dr. Dre’s Beats by Dre headphones are gaining a serious partner in Apple and their over 200 retail stores across the country. Apple will be selling and promoting the Beats by Dre headphones in their retail environment and online store stocking the exclusive white color version, the traditional black and the Monster Beats in-ear sets as well.

Meanwhile Jimmy Iovine has created himself a nice residual income from the Monster x Beats by Dre line and partnership with other Interscope artists including Lady Gaga’s Heart Beats line and Diddy’s upcoming Diddy Beats headphone line.

Diddy launches “Diddy Beats” headphones with Interscope & Dre

Diddy launches “Diddy Beats” headphones with Interscope & Dre

Diddy x Diddy Beats. Word around Interscope headquarters in Santa Monica is one of the big reasons Diddy was so excited to sign with Mr. Iovine and Interscope is because he was promised some of that “Beats by Dre” headphones action. Well apparently Iovine kept his word as Diddy revealed “Diddy Beats” ear buds and iPod speakers will be hitting stores next year all under the same Interscope/Dre x Monster partnership.

“We designed some ear buds called Diddy Beats that will be out next year,” Combs stated. “We also have an iPod speaker base for your house coming out. That experience as a whole was good, we (Dr. Dre) had a great chemistry with each other.”

No word yet on the tech specs of the ear buds or iPod speakers but it’s safe to say they will be close to Dre’s. Also interesting how Dre and Diddy are actually now working closely together considering the old school Bad Boy vs. Death Row days. Anyone excited for Diddy Beats headphones?

VIDEO: Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine introduce limited edition Beats HP ENVY laptop

Dr. Dre x Hewlett Packard. Although Beats by Dre gets a lot of crap from hardcore audiophiles out there, there is no denying the Dre and Jimmy have done a genius job extending the Dr. Dre brand to the audiophile and gadget world. They were both on hand to formally introduce the Limited Edition Beats HP Envy which we exclusively revealed will have the Beats Audio technology for superior lap top sound.

Now more details have been revealed as the limited edition lap top will also include Native Instruments’ Traktor LE software and Audio 2 DJ but will not come with the Beats by Dre headphones. The Beats HP Envy will start at $2,299 and will be available starting October 22nd.

Can’t comprehend the $2K+ price tag? Let Mr. Iovine tell you the importance of sound and why computers with optimal sound are imperative as part of the “sound chain.”

Dr. Dre talks about how Beats headphones came to be

Dr. Dre talks about how Beats headphones came to be

According to Interscope Records head Jimmy Iovine, it all started in Malibu, CA. While the coastal town in Southern California is home to celebs such as Britney Spears and Mel Gibson it is also home to a one Andre Young…AKA Dr. Dre, and it’s where the idea for Dre’s Beats headphone line came to be. Dre, Iovine and Lady Gaga officially launched Gaga’s Heartbeats headphone line to the U.S. market this past week after weeks of anticipation built from their international release. At the press conference, Iovine talks about how he and Dre came up with the idea.

The whole headphones thing came to life on its own. Dre and I were out in Malibu, I know some of you think Dre lives in the hood, but he has a house in Malibu,” said Iovine . “Anyway, we’re on his terrace in Malibu, and he says, ‘My lawyers want me to sell sneakers.’ I look at him and I say, ‘Fuck sneakers. Nobody cares what kind of sneakers you wear, but they would care about the speakers you use.’ And speakers turned into headphones.

While WoooHa is still ecstatic to see Dre in the press and taking advantage of his brand name we just hope that his lawyers tell him to finish “Detox” next.

Exclusive: Dr. Dre presents “BEATS AUDIO” hi-end audio software for HP laptops

Exclusive: Dr. Dre presents “BEATS AUDIO” hi-end audio software for HP laptops

We have exclusive word straight from the folks at HP about what makes the upcoming Dr. Dre HP Envy laptop so freakin’ special. The most obvious difference is the all black matte casing with the glowing Dr. Dre “Beats” logo on the top…Yea. Hell Yea… but it doesn’t take a computer genius to see that difference. What will make the Dr. Dre x HP Envy so special in which they declare as the “Mac killer” is not just the sleek design but true to Dr. Dre style…it’s all about the sound. The HP Envy will be the first laptop to  feature a “cutting-edge” sound system designed by Dr. Dre’s sound engineers labeled “Beats Audio.” The “Beats Audio” sound software was developed by the same folks that engineer Dre’s tracks and also helped design the Beats by Dre headphone line.

According to HP, Dre has developed “…a unique, high-performance audio software solution. Available exclusively on the HP Envy, Beats Audio offers users playing music or audio through headphones or external speakers the optimal sound experience – the way the artist intended it.”

HP would not give us any further details at this time about the Beats Audio software but did mention for us (and our readers) to be on the lookout for more information as the HP Envy and the Dr. Dre Edition hit stores on October 18th with prices starting at a very Mac-like $1,699 and up. Rumors that the Dr. Dre edition will include the Beats by Dre headphones were neither confirmed or denied. More info. to come. More pics after the jump…

Dr. Dre introduces the Lady Gaga “Heartbeats” headphones

Dr. Dre introduces the Lady Gaga “Heartbeats” headphones

Dr. Dre x Lady Gaga x Monster. Dr. Dre formally introduced Lady Gaga into his “Beats by Dre” headphone family as she will be launching a series of headphones called “Heartbeats” under the Beats by Dre division. The headphones are obviously targeted towards females who crave true acoustic sound or towards guys who like diamond-shaped jewelers on their headphones. The “Heartbeats” will hit stores in October. How the heck did Dre get stuck into doing this you ask? Two words…Jimmy Iovine. The partnership that Dre has with Monster is actually a deal brokered between Iovine and his Interscope label…Lady Gaga is part of Interscope and well you can fill in the blanks. Since Dre owns equity in the Beats by Dre line it’s a win-win for him…just as long as she doesn’t appear on “Detox.”

Check the pics from the press event which was recently held in Germany as well as official shots of the headphones.

Death Row Records goes into movie business

Death Row Records goes into movie business

The newly resurrected Death Row has officially announced that they will be launching a film production unit that will heavily utilize the famed Death Row Records catalog. The Hollywood Reporter states that Death Row Films is set to shoot their first movie called Sons 2 The Grave (not to be confused with DMX’s Cradle To The Grave) in Toronto this October. The movie will use songs from the label catalog which of course includes Dr. Dre, Snoop, Tupac, Tha Doggpound, etc.

The film is about a young basketball phenom returning to an embattled inner city ghetto after two gunshots cut short his dream of an NBA career. So basically like the life of 50 Cent but replace “rapper” with “basketball player.” The film is said to still be fairly low budget as the new Death Row entire operations was recently purchased out of bankruptcy for $18 million. The new president of the company Lara Levi stated the following:

“This film embodies what we’re trying to do with Death Row, to tell human stories that don’t always have happy endings, and that allow us to learn from violence and disenfranchised lives, but not glorify it.”

“We’re looking at film properties that relate to “Boyz ‘n the Hood”-type stories, and to power the films with Death Row music,” Lavi said.

In the mean time, Lavi continues to look for ways to make money off of the catalog while physical CD sales continue to plummet. The label has already secured deals to license Death Row songs for EA Games, TV’s “CSI” and “Cold Case.” On one hand it’s good to see Death Row still alive and kicking…on the other hand we can’t just help but think that the Death Row name and catalog is now just getting pimped out to the highest bidder. Somewhere Pac is turning in his grave.

Dr.Dre Jimmy Iovine Alliance with Hewlett-Packard Computers

Dr. Dre with Interscope Chairman Jimmy Iovine has a partnership with Hewlett-Packard. HP will release premium priced laptops, headsets, and software featuring the “Beats by Dr.Dre” brand during this fall.

In an interview last week with CNET News, Iovine declined to discuss HP or any other company that may be involved. Iovine confirmed that he and Dr. Dre are part of a plan to reconstruct the entire “digital music ecosystem” from the sound file to the computer and culminating with high-end headsets.

But can high-quality audio persuade people to buy albums?
