In a music and digital gaming first, Interscope Records has teamed up with online game developer Zynga to promote Dr. Dre’s highly anticipated album Detox with the social networking game Mafia Wars. The game will feature Dr. Dre inspired game experience with music content and limited edition virtual goods within a portion of the game titled “Hustlin’ wit Dre.”

“We felt it was a perfect fit for Dre to be the first musical experience for the millions of Mafia Wars players to enjoy while gaming,” Interscope’s CEO Jimmy Iovine stated. “We’re always looking for innovative and interesting ways for fans to discover great music and with an artist of Dre’s cultural significance we really wanted something special that’s never been done before.”

Justin Bieber is added to the line up of celebrities who will have their own line of headphones by Dr. Dre. JustBeats will come in purple and will be exclusively sold at Best Buy.

Dr. Dre releases the long awaited single from Detox titled “Kush” featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon. A lot of product placement in this video including Beats By Dre, Ciroc Vodka and the 2011 Dodge Durango.

Dre and Jimmy announced earlier this week the expansion of the Beats by Dre headphone line with the addition of the LeBron James Power Beats and an upcoming Justin Bieber line for the kids that we refuse to talk anymore about. Just like his album, the launch of Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Cognac has been delayed for years now when Jimmy and Dre first announced their liquor partnership with Drinks Americas back in 2008. Well turns out the two projects are tied together and the whole point was to launch Aftermath Cognac in conjunction with Detox. Billboard got the scoop…

In the Drinks Americas Q4 earnings, which were released yesterday, the company said it would introduce Aftermath Cognac in the next 60 days. The production, supply and European distribution of the cognac will be handled by Abecassis Cognac, a cognac producer.

Following that, an 80-proof flavored and unflavored sparkling vodka will hit the market, also within the next 60 days.

According to the earnings statement, the cognac and vodka will be introduced at the same time as Dr. Dre’s long awaited “Detox” album and will be part of an integrated marketing plan surrounding the project. In late, July Dr. Dre told USA Today that the album would be out in “November or December”.

Eminem and Dre throw it back as they cover the August/Sept 2010 issue of VIBE Magazine. Issue hits stands Aug. 16th.
