Word around here in Hollywood is that the new movie poster to the upcoming action thriller Repo Men (see trailer) is causing some confusion. In the poster, Forest Whitaker and Jude Law are shown front and center. Problem is Jude Law, with shaved head and scowled expression, looks so similar to Eminem that people looking at the poster in movie theaters actually think it is the 8 Mile star. We are not going to pass judgment on these people even though it clearly says “Jude Law” on the poster and from Universal’s perspective at least it grabs people’s attention.

Take a look though and see for yourself. Does Jude look like Eminem to you?

UPDATE: The numbers are in and they aren’t looking good. According to reports DJ Hero has sold approximately 120,000 units across PS3, Xbox360, Wii and PS2. This is well less than half of what Rock Band did at the same time period. Hopefully though with the Holiday season approaching that sales will pick up. It’s sad though when you can honestly say that 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct has sold more in one week than what DJ Hero has done in almost a month. Here’s hoping for the best…

Despite all the hype surrounding DJ Hero (yes please make sure to enter our contest for a DJ Hero on Wii) it looks like consumers are tightening up their spending for the Holiday season as analysts call sales of the video game “modest.” While no official numbers have been released it doesn’t take a professional to interpret that “modest” is something that game developer Activision does not want to hear. Add in the fact that Activision declined comment on the projections and it’s not looking too good.

Usually gaming companies are quick to boast their first week numbers to the press. Activision has been fighting negative projections from the start though as unit projections for the game were slashed in half by analysts pre-street. According to Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian, consumers are “showing price sensitivity” toward games with price points greater than $100.

DJ Hero is Activision’s key Holiday 2009 title as they spent millions in outdoor, TV, radio and online advertising and will continue to push their media campaign throughout the end of December. Even with the backing of heavyweights Jay-Z and Eminem in TV and online ads and the Renegade Edition, perhaps the high price point and the limited space consumers have in their living rooms from all the Guitar Hero and Rock Band is finally getting to them.

Maybe a Holiday Concert with Jay-Z and Eminem Part 2 is needed to revive the game as we head into December. I’m pretty sure for the right price they would be up for it.

Cinemax, the HBO owned cable movie channel and labels including Interscope and Atlantic Records have formed a partnership to exclusively air music videos on the movie channel. The deal came out as cable channels fight more and more for exclusive content to differentiate themselves from the competition and hip-hop labels look for unique and cost efficient ways to market their artists. As many of you remember, Cinemax debuted Eminem’s music video “3 A.M.” right before a showing of the horror/thriller movie The Strangers.

The response and the added publicity for both the cable channel and the label was so positive that Cinemax continued this program with Atlantic Records and Maino’s new single “Let’s Make A Movie” (video shown after the jump – NSFW). While it was the King of Pop Michael Jackson himself who laid the ground work for music videos to be featured on major networks outside of MTV &VH1, today is a whole new ball game as non-music based cable networks and online sites fight it out with music content sites and channels for the coveted “debut” music video rights.

My prediction for the future…ESPN starts rolling out music artist promotions and tie-ins the way they do with movies. “And now…the Little League World Series brought to you by Bow Wow.”

Artist albums have gone the way of old school DVD marketing strategy with the introduction of these re-releases and souped up Special Edition albums. Interscope has led the way including Lady Gaga’s deluxe album that came with a lock of her hair. Now Eminem drops his re-release of The Relapse which includes five new songs including “Forever” with Kanye West, Drake and Lil’ Wayne – and the DJ Hero track “Renegade.” Here is the new art for the album.

Eminem x Shady Talez. We have just learned that Eminem is confirmed to star in a 3D horror movie called Shady Talez. It will be the first starring role for Eminem since 8 Mile. We also got the drop that the production, writer and plot are all confirmed. The movie was actually an idea brought up Violator Management (Chris Lighty and Mona Scott) early last year but Eminem was not attached at the time. Since then, Eminem has been brought on board and will actually play multiple roles throughout the movie which will be distributed in 3D.

Slim will produce and star in the movie which will be a nod to classic horror genre flicks but with an urban edge. The writer of the Underworld franchises is on board as well as Dallas Jackson, writer of the upcoming Last Dragon remake. Shady Talez is also being turned into limited run comic book series due out in 2010 under the Marvel Icons imprint.

Been a long time since anyone has seen Shady on the big screen (cameos don’t count) but this looks to be an interesting project. Hopefully it gets the right production value and budget to make this a legit movie and not some Direct-To-Video fodder for Blockbuster.

Eminem x Call of Duty. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most anticipated games of the year. Although it already has record pre-sales, Activision is turning the marketing heat up with this new TV spot featuring the Eminem’s “Till I Collapse.” Remember kids…music licensing money is no small change.
