Wayne’s latest album I Am Not A Human Being has made the climb from #16 on the charts all the way to the top spot at #1. The reason for the big jump was due to the distribution strategy where the album was first available on download only and then two weeks later was available for physical sales on CD. Wayne has moved 110,000 records through digital and another 125,000 through CD. Via: Billboard
This seems to be a rising trend…bundling music albums with video games. Part of the reason? Every album that is bundled with a game counts as an automatic sale since games are non-returnable by retailers. Lil Wayne and Def Jam have announced that Wayne’s new album I Am Not A Human will be bundled with Def Jam Rapstar at Best Buy from Oct 12 to Oct 19th. This will be sure to boost Wayne’s numbers since, according to Billboard‘s logic, if a million Rapstars were packaged and shipped with Wayne’s album into Best Buy that would count as a million sales of the album as well. Let’s see if this type of deal can really move the needle for the game though. Will be interesting to see the results.

It’s clear the direction that EA wants to take their soundtrack music choices for the Madden franchise. Forget hip-hop…it’s all about the rock anthem. EA has officially announced their Madden 2011 soundtrack which features 23 tracks that recreate the ultimate live gameday experience via a collection of crowd favorites, stadium classics, and official NFL team fight songs. Kevin Rudolf and Lil’ Wayne’s “Let It Rock” and the Yin Yang Twins “Halftime” are the only two hip-hop tracks to make the cut as the rest of the soundtrack leans towards classic anthem hits like Guns N Roses “Welcome to the Jungle” and AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.” But no worries hip-hop fans….EA has big plans for their revamped “NBA Elite” franchise and the respective soundtrack.
