Just when you thought all the good footage from the MJ concert rehearsals was used for This Is It comes….This Is More of It. Too bad this isn’t real though…AEG could release this and make some more MJ exploitation money.

Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” underperforms box office projections
No matter what you might hear in the press, those in the film industry know that Michael Jackson’s This Is It has flat out failed to live up to all the hype. Sony Pictures had been lowering their internal box office projections all last week in preparation for any potential backlash that it would be a bomb. Although far from a box office bomb, This Is It was projected to make $35 million in the U.S. from last Wednesday to Sunday (yesterday). Instead, the film is coming in at $32.5 million for the five day weekend and only made $21.3 million Friday through Sunday. To put this in perspective, Miley Cyrus’ concert movie Best of Both Worlds did better with a $31.1 million three day weekend number. Yes Miley Cyrus beat out the King of Pop.
Sony will continue to hype the film up as a global success though and as we all expected (and as WoooHa predicted) they will be expanding the screenings beyond the “exclusive” two week period to offer everyone a chance to see the movie. No surprise there but everyone here in Hollywood knows it’s because Sony needs all the money the can out of this one.

VIDEO: Michael Jackson fans start “This is NOT It” anti-movie campaign
Michael Jackson x This Is It. While MJ’s This Is It is projected to have one of the biggest opening weekends in film history, not all Michael Jackson will be showing up to support it. In fact, an entire anti-This Is It campaign and website has been launched by MJ fans claiming that the pressures and grueling demands of the planned “This Is It” concert tour where what ultimately led to his death and AEG, the promoters of the tour and producers of the film, didn’t care what happened as long as they made their money.
The official campaign has been labeled This Is NOT It…the video pretty much explains it all or you can go to their official site for more details. I’m sure Sony Pictures isn’t worried about this though…just more free publicity for them.

Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” projected for $250 million opening weekend
AEG, owners and producers of the upcoming MJ movie, are internally projecting an astounding $250 million 5-day opening for the flick. That’s big. To put that in perspective, IF the movie does perform that well it would out gross Spider Man and Harry Potter 5-day opening weekend numbers. Sony, the studio marketing and distributing the film, is a bit more cautious with these projections and according to sources is a bit worried that they publicity of all the sold out screenings will actually scare off potential movie-goers.
Although the opening day pre-sell tickets have broke Fandango records there still will be plenty of theaters to see it in as theaters will increase screen counts to make up for the demand. And what does AEG have to say about all the pre-success it is enjoying? Well…the CEO of AEG was quoted as saying “He (Michael Jackson) was our partner in life and now he’s our partner in death.” At least it is clear who is making the money off of MJ’s death. Michael Jackson’s white glove sells for $70,800
When Michael Jackson’s famed white glove from his 1984 Victory Tour went on the auction block it was estimated to sell at a price of at least $50,000. Perhaps due to the continued hype of his death through his upcoming movie, the glove actually sold higher at an astounding $70,800. This was the same glove that actually lit up during Michael’s concerts and was the highlight of the tour. For about the same price you could get Pharrell’s crocodile skin hoodie instead. Via: Luxist

Yes usually we don’t post music and instead focus more on the business side but in this case Michael Jackson’s new single “This is It” goes hand-in-hand with the release of his upcoming film of the same name. The title track of the movie was actually recorded back in 1991 and features background vocals by the Jackson brothers. Take a listen to the single. This Is It the film hits theaters October 28th.
Michael Jackson single “This is It” and double album to release
It’s ironic that MJ left the world in financial ruins yet MANY people are going to make some serious bank from his death. It was just announced that a new Michael Jackson single called “This Is It” will be released in conjunction with the upcoming movie by the same name. The song will come out on October 12th followed by a 2-Disc collectors CD set. Yes people still do buy CDs. Here is the info on the CD set:
…the double disc album will feature one disc of Jackson’s hits in the sequence they appear in the film while the other disc will feature unreleased versions of his classic tracks, including a spoken word poem from Michael entitled Planet Earth. It also includes a 36-page commemorative booklet with exclusive pictures of his last rehearsal. The first disc will include two versions of the new single “This Is It.”

Disney says relaunch of “Captain Eo” is possible
Since the death of Michael Jackson, and let’s be honest, since the moment Disney pulled it from their theme parks, rumors have been swirling around about the possibility of bringing Captain Eo back to the Disney theme parks. The 17-minute short film was created in 3D and cost a hefty $17 million to make…yet for many (like us here at WoooHa…I’ve personally seen it at least 10 times) it was the highlight of our Disneyland trips. The rumor was that Disney would go back and re-do the aged special effects in the film and relaunch the original version with enhanced special effects. It looks like for now it’s not going to happen but Disney president Bob Iger says not to give up hope…
“There aren’t plans to bring back ‘Captain EO’ at this time,” Iger said at a news conference. “We are looking at it. It’s the kind of thing that, if we did it, would get a fair amount of attention and we’d want to make sure we do it right.”
So Captain Eo fans, the possibility is not 100% dead but it looks like you still will have to put up with Honey I Shrunk the Kids for just a little longer. For nostalgic purposes I leave you with the original Captain Eo poster and a clip from the best part of the movie. Via: SlashFilm
MJ’s “This is It” in theaters for 2 weeks; pre-sale tix selling
Sony wants you to think this is going to be a big deal. Taking a page out of the Disney Hannah Montana movie (yes second time I have referenced this movie now) playbook…Sony will be showing This Is It for a two week limited engagement only. As a result, Sony’s marketing efforts will be built around the pre-sale of tickets on the official website. The reality? If it does well in theaters there is no way Sony will pull the plug after just two weeks. Mark my little WoooHa words…they will keep “extending” the movie in theaters until it is finally played out. Still worried? Well then check out the site where you can get info to buy your pre-sale tix now.
