Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” in talks for full-length movie

No offense but Michael might be turning in his grave over this one. Deadline Hollywood reports that Jackson’s long time concert producing partner (and producer/director of This Is It) Kenny Ortega is in talks with GK Films and multiple studios to adapt the classic “Thriller” into a full-length movie. Alleged budget for the movie is in the $50 million range.
“Plot is being kept under wraps but I understand it has to do with the song’s folklore, involving Vincent Price and the town he grew up in. All of this deal making is subject to a deal being completed with Jackson’s estate, but that has been in the works for some time and is expected to be sealed. Thriller songwriter Rod Temperton is also in the mix,” reported Deadline.
The odd thing is that the screenwriter who wrote The Hangover is currently writing the script for this project. So unless they are turning this into a comedy let’s hope he is a versatile writer. Regardless, this should be an interesting project that we’ll keep tabs on.

More details on Michael Jackson video game

Ubisoft has teased what we can expect from their upcoming officially endorse Michael Jackson video game but now gamrfeed has more details. The official name of the game will be Michael Jackson: The Experience with details as folllows:
Michael Jackson: The Experience will be released on the DS, PS3, PSP, Wii, and XBox 360. The XBox 360 version will have Kinect support, and put a digitized version of yourself on the screen, similar to Ubisoft’s new Kinect fitness game, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved. The PS3 version will also have Move support. All three console versions will play similarly to Just Dance and have the player match the dance movements on the screen, but this time they’ll be MJ’s smooth magic motions.
The only specific details were about the 360, DS, and PSP versions. The DS and PSP versions will use what Ubisoft is calling “tap-on rhythm gameplay,” which sounds like an MJ version of Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, which sounds good to me. The 360 version will also include four player jump in/jump out gameplay (hey I thought Kinect could only score 2 skeletons at once in Dance Central or Dance Masters?), and it will use auto-pitch control to improve your singing.
According to the site, the two official songs that are confirmed so far are “Beat It” and “Billie Jean.” As long as “Smooth Criminal” is on then we are there.
Michael Jackson estate earned $783 million since his death

In just under a year since his death, Michael Jackson’s estate has earned over $783 million off of his music, films and publishing rights. A majority of the profits come from the multi-platform Sony deal across the music and film divisions. This Is It grossed over $260 million worldwide in theaters, but this does not account for lucrative TV and cable distribution deals. On top of that, home entertainment sales for the film were particularly strong even during a down economy.

Confirming reports from as early as last year, video game production company Ubisoft has officially announced their upcoming Michael Jackson video game. At the E3 Convention in Los Angeles, Ubisoft also released the first official screen shots of the game (shown above).
“We’re delighted to have the opportunity to develop a game based on the songs and moves of one of the world’s most incredible performers of all time,” said Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft. “We expect the game to bring Michael Jackson fans, families and friends together with the energetic song and dance of The King of Pop.”
According to the game developers, the currently non-titled Michael Jackson game will be rhythm based and set to release this holiday season. The game will be available for Xbox 360 with Kinect and Playstation 3 with Move, and on Nintendo Wii and DS. Via: Koalition
