Mos Def to sell current album on t-shirts

New marketing ideas are rare in hip-hop these days but of course innovator Mos Def is bringing the creativity to the marketing campaign of his current album “The Ecstatic.” The album has already been released but in a new twist Mos Def has partnered with clothing company LnA which owns the Invisible DJ Music Tee to further push the album.

Basically, Mos Def’s next album will literally be sold through a t-shirt. The shirt will have “The Ecstatic” album cover on the front, track listing on the back and will include a special download code to download the entire album. Buy the shirt…get the album. Crazy thing is according to HipHopDX, SoundScan is going to count the t-shirt as an album sale. Sounds pretty cool…unless the shirt is ridiculously expensive.

Mos Def bans the “N” word on movie “Next Day Air”

Mos Def x Next Day Air. Mos Def will be starring in the upcoming urban comedy Next Day Air but there is one thing that his movie will be missing…the “N” word. Mos Def along with actor Wood Harris both challenged each other not to use the word on set or in actual filming as well. Harris stated:

“It was something that was very important to us. It was our way of making a statement that we can express ourselves without using the ‘N’ word,” Harris explained. “But it wasn’t just in the movie that we banned the word. We also banned it on the set. No one could say it at all.

“At first it was difficult, but we really stayed on top of each other,” he continued. “By the end of … filming, I don’t know if it was something that even came up. We just didn’t say it, and had no desire to. I hope that other people will start trying to find new ways to express themselves as well.”

WoooHa applauds their efforts and from what we have seen Next Day Air looks to be a fun, crazy adventure. It’s moves like these that show urban films do not need to be stereotypical or stick to certain formulas to work. Movie comes out next week May 8th against Star Trek.

A look at the entire UNDRCRWN “Mos Def Collection”

Mos Def x UNDRCRWN. We showed you a preview last week but now UNDRCRWN has just officially released the first series of their Mos Def Collection which are seven different t-shirt designs. UNDRCRWN designer Dustin Canalin states:

“We took Mos Def’s DNA and applied it to ours. Many of the items incorporate the colors and cover print from the 2004 Dead Prez album Revolutionary But Gangsta, but also include personalization from Mos Def’s own life. A lot of it is just playing around with the unexpected, and saying, ‘People always do this, let’s go a completely different route.’”

The collection will be released in two phases, starting with the t-shirts. Check out the rest of the first installment from the Mos Def Collection after the jump.

Mos Def to guest appear on episode of “House”

Mos Def x House. Mos Def is one of the few rapper/actors that doesn’t have to rely on TV guest appearances to build up his Hollywood reputation. He already has a full blown acting career and more important, has won over the hearts of producers and directors for his past performances. However, it’s hard to turn down a guest spot on a top rated TV show.

Mos Def will guest star on the hit FOX show “House” on March 23rd. In the episode Mos plays Lee, a man who awakens in New York after a bicycle accident who is unable to move or communicate in any way. House, then gets into a motorcycle injury himself and occupies the hospital bed next to Lee and quickly annoys the doctors treating them both by insisting that Lee has “locked-in” syndrome. From there it’s up to House to save Mr. Def.

Mos Def will be making his way back onto the big screen with the upcoming action/comedy film Next Day Air. Check out the trailer and poster art here. Movie hits theaters May 8, 2009. Via: CL

Official movie poster to Mos Def’s “Next Day Air”

I was really doubting this movie until I saw the trailer. Looks like this one could actually be pretty entertaining. Mos Def plays Eric, a shipping delivery man who accidentally mixes up a very special delivery. Mos most recently played Chuck Berry in Cadillac Records alongside Beyonce and will be starring with Erykah Badu in the upcoming indie film Bobby Zero. Here is the official Next Day Air movie poster released by Summit Entertainment. Movie hits theaters May 8, 2009.

Mos Def’s “Next Day Air” finally coming to theaters

Mos Def filmed the comedy Next Day Air waaaay back in Sept. 2007 but the movie failed to pick up a studio to distribute it. But now, after two years on the shelf, Summit Entertainment (studio that gave Twilight a chance after other studios passed on it) will release Next Day Air on May 8, 2009. Movie has a Pineapple Express meets Friday type feel and also stars Donald Faison, Lauren London, Mike Epps and is the movie directorial debut of music director Benny Boom.

Life isn’t going smoothly for Leo Jackson (Faison). He still lives at home, he just broke up with his girlfriend and he’s had so many complaints about his sloppy work habits that his own mother is threatening to fire him. But Leo isn’t one to let a few bad breaks ruins his day — as long as he’s got plenty of weed to take his mind off his troubles. But when the wacked-out courier accidentally delivers a box containing 10 kilos of high quality cocaine to the wrong apartment, it sets in motion a hilarious and harrowing chain of events that could cost him his life.

Mos Def and Erykah Badu team up for movie “Bobby Zero”

In an odd couple of sorts, Mos Def and Erykah Badu will be starring side-by-side in the upcoming indie drama Bobby Zero. Movie is relatively small but will be a great platform for Mos Def and Badu to both show off their acting abilities and on-screen chemistry. Movie is about how Bobby (Mos Def), a struggline artist, and his agoraphobic girlfriend hit rock bottom after years of struggling as a couple. To make ends meet, Bobby goes corporate and “sells out” with an advertising job and is confronted by his past beliefs, stepping outside the box and discovering that there the world is not what he expected.

Bobby Zero is expected to begin filming in 2009 once Badu delivers here third child. Mos Def is starring in the upcoming music drama Cadillac Records alongside Beyonce. Check him out in this pic as Chuck Berry. Nice weave Mos! (source)
