VIDEO: RZA Auditions for NBC’s “Parks & Recreation”

RZA x Parks & Recreation. NBC has been in the news lately for their whole “Late Night” Conan vs. Leno mess but at least RZA gives some love to the network show “Parks & Recreation” in this promo skit which was in collaboration with website Funny or Die. Maybe if RZA really did take Amy Poehler’s role then the show actually might be funny. Or people might actually watch it. “The Office” you are not. Via: TSS

First official pics of RZA’s “Victory or Death” painting

rza
RZA the artist (see here for RZA the film director) finally released his first official art piece entitled “Victory or Death” on New Years. The painting is limited to 360 prints in total, in two different collections — the Legacy and Monument series and are currently available for pre-order. Prints in the Legacy Series measure 40″ x 30″with a quantity of 300 while the more exclusive Monument Series is limited to 60 and measure 80′ x 60′.

“Victory or Death” is definitely something I need to get my hands on. The piece is RZA’s interpretation of Emanuel Leutze’s iconic painting of George Washington crossing the Delaware, with RZA replacing Washington, and the GZA and ODB as side kicks complete with soldiers in the back throwing up their “W’s”. Kinda tells you what RZA thinks of the other Wu members right now. I’m surprised he doesn’t show them as the Confederates. Can’t we all just get along? Do it for the Wu.

RZA gets John Woo’s permission to direct “Bullet in the Head”

RZA gets John Woo’s permission to direct “Bullet in the Head”

RZA was recently interviewed by The LA Times profiling his new career directing films and not Wu-Tang Clan members in the studio. He is currently prepping his directorial debut in Man With the Iron Fist with producing and directing partner Eli Roth (Hostel).

“RZA is such a creative fountain. The script is great, he’s got characters, jokes. What he does with lyrics, he does with dialogue and he’s done such a great mix: spaghetti western, kung fu, modern fighting infused with hip-hop and multiculture. He has this whole comic book universe figured out. I know he’s going to make a brilliant film,” stated Roth.

What’s even more interesting is that while RZA has been under the tutelage of Roth and Quentin Tarantino, another critically acclaimed director is giving his full support to RZA. John Woo, director of action flicks like Face Off and Wind Talkers has actually given RZA permission to remake Woo’s classic film Bullet in the Head.

The RZA to release “The Tao of Wu” book

Although the Wu-Tang Clan have had their recent share of bumps with each other, RZA still has held true to his Wu-Tang philosophy which borders on religion. So it’s no surprise that RZA will be releasing his book “The Tao of Wu” which the publisher, Penguin Books, describes as “part chronicle of an extraordinary life and part spiritual and philosophical discourse” and compared as the “Siddhartha for the hip-hop generation —an engaging, seeking book that will enlighten, entertain, and inspire.” The book hits stores October 15, 2009 and will be available nationwide and online.
