Despite slow sales DJ Hero 2 is a go
WoooHa can confirm with various unofficial sources inside Activision that despite weak sales, the DJ Hero brand will continue to roll out a “DJ Hero 2″ game. No time table has been set for the release but the production company Freestyle Games has already started development on the second game version and is looking for new talent including the ideal signing of DJ Qbert to the DJ Hero franchise.
While the second game will roll out, Activision will continue to sell its current DJ Hero controller console and will not be releasing a newer version. Let’s hope the second game can generate some stronger sales for this struggling franchise.
“NBA Jam” video game set for return with a hip-hop twist
Those young’ns out there who don’t know what NBA Jam is are missing out. The classic 2-on-2 arcade game is back and better than ever as EA Sports has bought the rights to the game and plans to release it on the Wii. The plan is to make all the crazy dunks including the 360s, “on fire” dunks, triple flips, etc. executed through various crazy hand motions on your Wii controller.
Even better, since EA took over the franchise rights from Midway, plans are underway to include a heavy hip-hop inspired soundtrack and give it the EA Trax treatment. No word yet on release date but we can’t wait for this one. I dare anyone to stack up against my Shawn Kemp and Benoit Benjamin Sonics duo.
VIDEO: New Def Jam Rapstar trailer
The marketing for Def Jam’s Rapstar goes into full swing heading into the holiday season with this new trailer which plays more like a TV spot/teaser. The hip-hop heads will notice the cameos from Esso, Just Blaze and more. Check out the newly expanded site DefJamRapstar.com for more info.
The publishers need to be careful about the price point on this one. DJ Hero’s above $100 price point really hindered it from taking off as gamers become more choosy about what plastic instruments enter their homes. Via: The Koalition

Gaming analysts slash DJ Hero projections in half
Not even Jay-Z and Eminem might be able to save this one. Although Activision’s DJ Hero is EVERYWHERE these days as it hits stores tomorrow, it looks like Wall Street analysts aren’t buying it…and neither will consumers. Analysts Cowen & Company have dropped their projections for DJ Hero in half due to lack of interest from a recent retailer survey.
“On DJ Hero, despite some recent positive comments from company management about pre-orders, we remain very cautious about the title’s prospects at launch,” he noted. “A survey of online retailers indicates a demand profile that is well below what we would have expected to see just a few days before launch for a title that was destined to be a big (or even modest) hit. As a result, we are reducing our estimate for DJ Hero Q4 US unit sales from 1.6 million to 600,000, and we are reducing our first year estimate from 2.5 million to 950,000.”
There are a lot of factors that go into this…for many it’s the fact that consumers don’t want another fake plastic instrument crowding up the family room…for others…scratching on turntables just doesn’t have the appeal of rocking out on a guitar. We’ll just have to see how sales go tomorrow. Now if only Dr. Dre was involved. Via: Kotaku
VIDEO: DJ Hero intro video like “California Love”
We are still trying to figure out what this intro video to DJ Hero means…it’s a mix of The Matrix, Blade Runner and “California Love” all rolled together…with a semi-truck and gigantic turntable needle. See for yourself. Game hits stores October 27th.
