Not even Jay-Z and Eminem might be able to save this one. Although Activision’s DJ Hero is EVERYWHERE these days as it hits stores tomorrow, it looks like Wall Street analysts aren’t buying it…and neither will consumers. Analysts Cowen & Company have dropped their projections for DJ Hero in half due to lack of interest from a recent retailer survey.

“On DJ Hero, despite some recent positive comments from company management about pre-orders, we remain very cautious about the title’s prospects at launch,” he noted. “A survey of online retailers indicates a demand profile that is well below what we would have expected to see just a few days before launch for a title that was destined to be a big (or even modest) hit. As a result, we are reducing our estimate for DJ Hero Q4 US unit sales from 1.6 million to 600,000, and we are reducing our first year estimate from 2.5 million to 950,000.”

There are a lot of factors that go into this…for many it’s the fact that consumers don’t want another fake plastic instrument crowding up the family room…for others…scratching on turntables just doesn’t have the appeal of rocking out on a guitar. Eric B & Rakim x NBA 2K10. One of the best sports video game TV commercials we have ever seen…and we don’t even like Kobe. Set to Eric B & Rakim’s classic “Don’t Sweat the Technique.” Nice to see a classic song getting some major recognition today. Ad is currently running on national TV programming.

Here is the brand new trailer for GTA – Episodes from Liberty City which the only way to experience both The Lost and Damned and the all-new episode The Ballad of Gay Tony in one complete package. Game hits stores October 29th.

The latest…yes another…from NBA 2k10. This trailer features rookies and sophomores (excluding D. Rose who got his own trailer) with Kennan Bell’s single “Like This” which is featured in the game as well.

DJ Hero won’t even hit stores until the end of this month but Activision is so sure it will be a success that they are already recruiting DJs to jump on board for DJ Hero 2. In fact, Activision CEO Mike Griffiths thinks DJ Hero has the ability to outsell the hugely successful Guitar Hero.

“Outside of those 15 million household’s, there’s another 300 million that haven’t for one reason or another bought Guitar Hero yet. One of those reasons is we’re not reaching new genres and new music audiences in a way that DJ Hero allows us to accomplish,” stated Griffiths.

In order to develop updates to DJ Hero and new franchises, the company has already enlisted various game programmers to start working on DJ Hero 2 and is currently recruiting high profile DJs such as Q-Bert to join the DJ Hero family. Whoever says spinning on the 1’s and 2’s is easy needs to just take a look at this demo video which features the DJ Hero mash up of Rihanna’s “Disturbia” and The Killers “Somebody Told Me.” This clip also features the DJ Hero plus Guitar Hero feature where two people can play the turntables and guitar at the same time.

If it worked for Lil Wayne then maybe it can work for NBA Live 10. Stuck in a heated battle with NBA 2K10, EA Sports is pulling out all the stops to market the upcoming release of NBA Live. Both titles go head to head when they hit stores at the same time next Tuesday. As part of their “urban” promotions, EA is releasing a mixtape by Mick Boogie which includes tracks from the game. You can start downloading songs from the mixtape at the official NBA Live 10 mixtape site leading all the way up to the release.

And another one. Custom animations and signature moves are looking pretty smooth. Get it on October 6th.

Daft Punk’s influence in hip-hop is no secret. Most of Activision’s promotions with DJ Hero have been centered around hip-hop but their new trailer featuring Daft Punk clearly appeals to the mainstream…and in our opinion it’s working. The game actually features eleven different Daft Punk remixes.

The game will be available via Xbox download for $19.99 on October 29th. Sorry PS3 owners, you will have to wait out on this one.

It’s here. Electronic Arts has just released the official soundtrack for the upcoming NBA Live 2010. It’s a pretty strong track lineup with songs from The Beastie Boys, Snoop Dogg, DeLaSoul and Dead Prez to name a few. NBA Live 10 hits stores October 6th. In a new promotion with Game Stop, consumers can get the soundtrack for free with bonus tracks if you reserve the game now on their website. Not a bad deal for some solid music.
