Will Smith plans to do modern day movie of Biblical character Job

Even though Will Smith has been busy looking at various film projects, it’s been awhile since we have actually seen him in a movie. Now, word has it that Smith is looking to star in the movie Joe which is a modern day telling of the Biblical character Job (pronounced Jobe for the non-Religious). Movie is written by the guys who wrote The Fighter so there definitely is some high pedigree to this project. One of the writers claim the following about the plot:

It’s about a man [who is living] the American dream.  He’s got the nice house, white picket fence, great kids, great wife, nice cars.  God and the devil get together every thousand years to bet on a man’s life, and the fate of the world is at stake. What all of us get hit with in a lifetime, this man gets hit with in one week.  And it’s about whether or not he can still pick himself up from that and survive it.  It’s a dramedy.  At it’s heart, it’s a comedy — but it’s got, obviously, a real dramatic core to it.

Let’s just hope for everyone’s sake this doesn’t end up like Bruce Almighty. And while we are at it, where is Bad Boys 3 and Men In Black 3D Will??

Jay-Z & Will Smith launch film production company for “Annie” remake

Jay-Z and Will Smith have joined forces to form a new film development and production company which will be an arm of Smith’s existing Overbrook Entertainment production company.  The as-yet-unnamed venture was launched to produce a remake of the musical Annie starring Smith’s daughter, Willow.

“The Overbrook Entertainment family and I have a unified vision,” says Jay-Z.  “We’ve already produced a Tony Award winning play and we’re developing a true superstar in Willow.  This venture into film development and production is a perfect next step with teams that are accomplished, creative, and innovative.”

Smith founded Overbrook Entertainment in the late 1990s which has produced dozens of films like Ali, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Hancock, I Am Legend, and the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid starring Smith’s son, Jaden.

Jay-Z speaks on signing Will Smith’s daughter to RocNation

The Roc just got a lot younger. Jay-Z publicly spoke about signing Will Smith’s nine year old daughter, Willow, to his RocNation label earlier today with Ryan Seacrest.

“We at Roc Nation are excited to work with Willow,” Jay-Z stated. “She has an energy and enthusiasm about her music that is truly infectious.  It’s rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity at such a young age.  Willow is about to embark on an incredible journey and we look forward to joining her as she grows in all aspects of her career.”

Willow is the youngest member of RocNation and her single “Whip My Hair” has become an instant teen single sensation. Wonder how her older brother Jayden feels about this. He might be a movie star but he doesn’t have a record deal with Jay-Z.

Karate Kid sequel with Jaden Smith already in talks

After Karate Kid blew away the competition this past weekend grossing $56 million in the U.S. and international numbers that are expected to help the pic gross almost half a billion dollars globally, it’s no surprise that Sony is already in talks to film a Karate Kid sequel. According to Deadline, Sony execs are already taking meetings with Hollywood’s top writers to see where they want to take the story for the next installment.

Both Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan have options to star in a sequel so it would seem like a slam dunk for Lil Smith…that is unless he wants to get into TV and remake “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” But there can only be one Carlton. Then again…there can only be one Mr. Miyagi.

This will only add to Smith’s astounding box office success as the added 3D ticket sales will be sure to boost the already highly profitable franchise.

Will Smith confirmed for “Men in Black 3-D”

Will Smith x Men In Black.
Director Barry Sonnenfeld has confirmed that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have both signed on to star in the next Men in Black film simply titled Men in Black 3-D. Because you know…it’s movie number three in the franchise and it will be in 3-D.
Because Sony’s Spider-Man 4 has completely halted production, the studio is in desperate need of a Summer blockbuster for next year and a 3-D MIB with Will Smith will fill in quite nicely.

The first MIB released in 1997 grossed $590 million world-wide and the second one released in 2002 grossed over $400 million. With the added prices of 3D tickets, you can expect some pretty high numbers for Mr. Smith that will hopefully have us all forgetting about Seven Pounds.
